The local paper up here reports that Carey has been put on notice.
Apparently he has two weeks to put up or....... back to North Adelaide.

Is it so?

I think this is a case of Bill Sanders shooting his mouth off to Michaelangelo Rucci.

A word of advice BS, Keep your bloody mouth shut when you are around Jurnos especially one named Michaelangelo Rucci.

There can be only one...

I heard on SEN here in Melbourne that Carey is not under any pressure to keep his spot in the side. Some offical from Adelaide said something I think.

Nothing except that I don't like it when it turns into a "sledging match" on Adelaide Radio.

First there is Triggy, then shortly after its Rucci then after that we have Sanders getting on.

Terrific would be a fair overstatement!!
According to Trigg the ball went to Carey 21 times on the weekend and he was beaten on only 4 of those occasions. The rest of the time he either won the ball or created a contest that held the ball in the area. I was surprised at this to be honest.

On TWE, it was the best game that I have seen Carey play for the Crows. No question about that, but that is also the problem. It just wasn't good enough.
If that is the best he can do, then somebody else should be put in the side.
He was either directly, or indirectly involved in a few goals, but so would someone else playing instead of him, and with someone else perhaps your "sorties" would not be so predictable.

"Terrific" football was what we saw against the Bombers last year before the post incident.

We may have seen a glimpse of it against the Swans at FP late last year.

Since then, a number of other words come to mind...

what other tall forward has played better than Carey this year?
That's the problem.

If Carey's level of performance were to remain the same and he was to become the second or third tall AFC would be looking good now.

I actually thought he played ok - obviously not a shadow of his 90's performances but still provided a valuable link into the forward line (was playing much further up the ground)

I thought the chase down of pecket was sensational. Was a 50/50 ball on the outer wing/half forward line and Peckett falls over and Carey gathers and boots it into the forward line.

Thought that was vintage stuff

Sorry I have a real problem with perceptions of Carey.
Last year whilst not consistent, Carey was qick in his movements (not speed), was still swaggering, drew defenders, and despite public & media condemnation, I thought he was a very valuable team member.

This year he's fitter, not getting the intense spot -light of last year, but the swagger has gone, he is moving slower, reactions are slower, and IMO the extra year in age, has outweighed the extra fitness he has.

Sadly I believe he realises he's near the end, and is playing without the ego that once differentiated him from other players.

I heard part of an interview with Gary Ayres on SEN1116 this morning and he said that what he wants from Carey is 2 goals per week plus the creation of another 2 to be kicked by others. He said that Carey has let himself down with some poor kicking, especially against Freo (2 goals 5 behinds) but apart from that has been reasonable.

He again emphasised the point that he is not looking for Carey to be the player of 4 years ago because he simply isn't and that it would be unfair to judge him as such (although a lot of people still do).

Once again, I think it demonstrates how much losing Mark Stevens has hurt us. Instead of Carey being able to play 2nd or 3rd fiddle he is still getting the best defender each week.

You have hit the nail on the head regarding our loss of Mark Stevens. He has been the key to our forward structure which has been all over the place so far this year. As Mark is unlikely to play again, it is important that we get an even contribution from all of our forwards (something we are not getting at the moment). Also, need Perrie to play CHF rather than Kenny, as he knows when to lead & how to create space (whereas Kenny whilst playing OK, tends to play deeper & clog up the FF line - also doesn't present as much to midfielders/defenders).

And thats the key to it. A lot of people seem to forget that we NEVER recruited Carey to be our #1 forward. I keep going back to round 1 of 2003 when Carey was a 3rd forward. 3 of the key forwards that day in Perrie, Stevens and Carey had 20 marks and 10 goals between them. Thats the role that Carey was brought in to play. Unfortunatly, things haven't panned out as we planned. Stevo's career is virtually over with a bung knee, Perrie is a confidence player and when the confidence is down Perrie is bloody down. Due to this we are forced to play Carey as our #1 forward which is is not capable of being anymore.

To be honest I think he is doing a pretty resonable job for us this year. He is creating a contest and is giving off goals to others eaither by setting them up by a handball, busting pack or shepparding.

We would all like him to take a few more contested marks and kick a few more goals and I think thats a fair critisism but I don't think he has been as bad as some people believe.

Looks like Ayres overreacted too.

The question is why?
Disagree. The suggestion that you have a mole in the ranks, at a time when you should be closing ranks is very important. Second guessing selection via the media is not on, and if you suspect either this or rat boy from the advertiser is making it up, you need to get to the bottom of it.

I think Sanders is doing just that, undermining the selection panel and football department. Maybe he is jealous of eddies profile, but it is not his role to interfere with selection, and I don't buy the highly sanitised 'explanation' in this article.

If I were Ayres I'd go bunta too.

Agree with most of your post. The last thing the club needs when we are 0-4 is being distracted from quotes/leaks being fed to Rucci's without the knowledge of the CEO or footy department. How much time was lost for preparation this week?

I think Gary Ayres had every right to react the way he did. Personally, I don't think it was an overreaction.

Bill Sanders, OTOH should pull his head in. Bring back Bob Campbell........
