Wayne Carey appears to have again found the blind spot of the league and has somehow missed being reported - again.

This time he has taken a wild swing with an elbow and collected Matthew Robran on the back of the head. Sure Robran didn't end up with a cracked skull or even leave with the blood rule but contact was made and the strike was deliberate.

But as usual the umpires and the AFL have turned a blind eye, what a surprise. The umpire in control even stopped the game and waved his little finger at Wayne, "you naughty boy".

They sanitise the game to such an extent that you cant frown on the field anymore but this thug continues to escape any action. Almost every time he has been reported he has gotten off and he can & does get away regularly with twice the reportable actoins of any other player.

I don't believe it is a North Kangaroos thing because his teammates don't seem to get away with it. It may be a champion player bias as you rarely see the very best players reported at all. But then you rarely see any other of those players commit an offence.

But Wayne Carey does it with amazing regularity and seemingly with impunity. Don't get me wrong, I think he is the best player going around and I would love to see him in my team but this is getting beyond a joke.

There is still time for him to be cited for this one but I can't see them breaking their protected species code can you?

Well I'm not a Roos fan, nor that much of a Carey fan (IMO great player, w***er), but I couldn't see anyhting wrong with what he did. He threw his arm back to break the hold Robran had on him and made *incidental* contact. Did Robran remonstrate? No. Did any other Cows player? No. It only got highlighted becuase the Ch$ idiots played it back ad nauseum, which the locals got to see and hoot on the scoreboard.

Whew! I was getting very disappointed with you guys. It took you 2 days to get this one going!! The umpire saw it ,gave him a warning, didn't even reverse the kick, Robran didn't even react, in fact looked somewhat sheepish as he knew he'd been holding on too long, a cream-puff backhander at best and the "killer" ? Graham Cornes said there was nothing in it! Therefore there was absolutely NOTHING in it!!!

Carey a protected species, well look who's finally decided to state the obvious.

He is far and away the most protected of all species on the planet.

If he breaks a nail, he crys and gets a free kick. If it had have been Garry Hocking who hit Robram, he would have been reported straight away, no if's but's or maybe's about it.

Wake up AFL, he might be a great player, but he is an absolute thug who gets away with it all the time.

On the reporting issue: at least he's not winning brownlows as well - it was a lot bigger joke when the G.Williams kidney punch machine got away with it week in, week out.... But Carey does get away with a bit.

(eg: punch to head on D.Wallis bringing cut eye in AC GF - result: report by Emergency Umpire - obviouslty not in the know - Result: charge withdrawn - Reason????)

On the free kick side, sure he gets more frees than Lloyd but both of them get scragged like nobodies business. Carey does amazing work under severe pressure. No point whinging about it.

I watched the Adelaide V Kangaroos game as well. When the Adelaide players were held up a 50 metre penalty was given, when the North players were held up no there was no action. There has also been no mention of the incident where a Adelaide player appeared to have his fingers in the face of an opposition player. Yes what Carey did was stupid, but his action was pretty harmless in comparison to an Ablett or Stoneham elbow.

Can't get Brownlow votes in the pre-season Grendel - you should know that! Overwise, fair dues.

What is your honest opinion on your hawks finals-wise this year? Top 6?

Also, what's the latest verdict on Bazza at Glenferrie Oval?

Dutch

PS. I notice no blue-baggers are leaping to the defence of G.Williams re: his "Best and most protected re fairness" Brownlow wins...

I was there. There was nothing in it. But it would have been nice to see the magots take the ball off him. No one else could.

We have all seen the ball taken off other players for less so as usual it's consistancey out the window.

Hi Dutch, re the Hawks? Looking promising still think they are a season away and some more in the midfield from doing serious damage in the game. Depth will play a part and Im not looking forward to The Fish giving it away eithier. Still with the much talked about "SPINE" of young talls and some talent being spread around definite promise to come, so id say this year 5th to 8th is a realistic shot. Hard run home doesnt help matters but Schwab is giving them something and they are playing with a more purposeful style than Judges man on man plan.

One thing about the Hawks middle is it the land of the short people haha. Seriously some 6'1 or 6'2 runners would be nice, you dont really want Hirdy do you? Send him over keep Baz company.

Good things take time, look at the Dons at the minute that side has really been coming together since about 97/8 so I really feel the Hawks long term (aroudnd 2002) should start to make BIG strides.

Young has played okay last few weeks, getting no where close to the amount of the footy that he gave to you over the last few years, but I will admit isnt being given the same sort of (run with and run of) role either. I will credit him though, he seems to really be working hard,ie sheppards, spoils
and is getting better. I still reckon the WWF talent scouts dont know what theyre missing out on though

cheers

What did i tell you. No charge.

The guy is touched.

Any one of 351 other players any week doing the same thing would go why doesnt he?
