When Carey was a gun player, I hated his guts.
Now that he is in the media, I still don't like the man but I love his media commentary.
The main reason for this is that he speaks his mind regardless of how twisted that may be on occasion.
Almost all other ex-players in the media are quickly taught the following:

• You can't knock the AFL.
• Don't criticise the umpires
• You may be heavily biased toward the team that you used to play for.
• Most cases before the tribunal are just a harmless "show of strength".
• If you have never played at AFL level then you can't possibly know anything about the game.
• All the players and ex-players stick together to form the "Old Boys Club".

Carey is so arrogant that he tends to call it as he sees it and for entertainment and informational value, that'll do me everytime.

Yep, in this respect Carey very much reminds me of a former Geelong champ.

Thompson has already been offered a contract and has turned it down....

What is your source? According to Brian Cook on Footy Classified the week before last that is not so. Both the club and Thompson intend sticking to the agreement not to discuss 2008 and beyond until after the season, according to Cookie.

Caroline Wilson also suggested tonight on radio that Thompson is no sure thing to get the clubs nod for 2008 and beyond. Much depends on how we fare in the finals.

The way Carey put said it bomber would be sacked if we don;t win the premiership this year. Now that can't be right. Carey was just trying say something noteworthy so they'd stop talking about his depression comments.

It doesn't matter what the Cats do bewteen now and the end of the year Thompson has demonstrated he has the ability to coach. To not renew his contract would be foolish. Has he made a rod for his own back by winning 14 in a row? So the expectation is anything short of the flag is unacceptable. Seems pretty unfair to me.

On the subject of Carey, the guy is not the smartest tool in the shed, as he has demonstrated on numerous occassions, so take his comments for what they are - uniformed, attention seeking tripe.

No. Carey is more dangerous than John Newman. Most people dismiss the latter as the class-conscious, intellectually limited but loquacious clown he is - the former still rides on his on-field reputation and has no moral scruples at all. Apologies are issued because his minders and employers demand them.
