Sounds to me from snippet of article (above) that Carl was a serial offender when it came to training attendance.

I still think it's worth giving him another go. He seems to know where he went wrong. Little risk if we rookied him with possibly great rewards.

So why does he deserve a second chance? Because he's talented? Much rather we don't let a bloke like that back in. How is it going to look if he comes back and gets game over blokes who've stuck it out and didn't miss training sessions?

Just my opinion mate and relying on quoted article. Sounds to me like the major problem was Carl's shyness/lack of social skills and misplaced reaction to attendance issues that compunded the situation. From what he has said it also sounds like he now understands this and therefore is in better position to not repeat.

Am I naive? Maybe. Or just maybe I believe in rehabilitation and am against capital punishment.

Whatever, I am not suggesting he gets selected if he continues to miss training. Rather that we not keep going back to previous records.

Not having a go at you, just disagreeing with your opinion.

You make a good point however that I didn't consider, IF it was Carl's shyness/lack of social skills that were the root of the problem then it is a flaw that would not, in my opinion, cause disharmony in the playing the group. Compare that to a lack of commitment being the problem, my assumption, and I doubt the playing group would be as forgiving.

It is hard to say with Carl. on one hand, he is pretty talented, but on the other, this will be his third chance, and who knows whether he will get over whatever issues he had.

We've already had Krakouer mentioned in this thread. He came in after some time away and playing one season of WAFL and got a game over a lot of blokes who had been sticking it out and not missing training sessions. If Carl produces the good so be it you'd play him. But as we haven't picked him up (yet) there's no need to get ahead of ourselves worrying about this. Faith in the club and coaches even though we all think we're experts - hahaha
