Yes he is. That’s the entire point of it. Retired and long term injured players are officially on the list until October 31, so the only option is to put them on the inactive list if you want to replace them.

Yes... he retired after the cutoff this year, so is stuck on our list till Oct 31 next year. Cutoff for removing him was I think Nov 14 - a few days before he retired.

I do not think it works that way.
If you retired and filled in paperwork which he apparently has, it all done and dusted for how it effects our picks numbers going into this draft period.

It would be really good if the AFL did clean up all these vague lists names like Rookie Lists and Inactive lists so it was clear cut how it worked.

I think we can rule this out - we’ve pretty much said all along that we’re taking one pick this year and will focus more on next year.

I don’t think Jones leaving changes our ND plans at all.

They’re two very different events.

If LJ wanted to take his chances it changed he would have just waited to February but I reckon he knew the only way to train with other players back in December was to get first dose of some vacc the same week he decided to retire. Trying to play catch of on rest of group to train with them in February if Vic gov rules changed for work places was the limbo he did not want to be in for his own sake or the clubs, I would assume. Having said all that, we do not really know for sure his exact reasons to retire now so just left to guess like I doing.

It does effect other clubs. Do not think you can be giving extra draft picks after a deadline when a player retires.
Supplemental selection period made the most sense to replace Jones on the list.

Nobody was proposing they would get an extra draft pick - other being able to take pick 96 to the draft coz they had an extra free list spot. It won't affect Carlton or anyone else's ND selections, it will just mean someone like Cottrell will sit in limbo for a couple of months before being picked up in the SSP.

Pretty sure the SSP opens on the 1st of December, just most clubs wait until the end of March and watch a few guys train with them for the whole summer before they make the decision.

it is still an extra pick after the cut off date.
We can still put Cottrell in limbo without needing the AFL to make up rules as they go along to add an extra pick.
We can use pick 65 or 78 as a live pick if we want to without needing to use both picks to upgrade some rookie list guys to primary list.
So there no reason for AFL to add an extra pick. Somebody chose to retire at an unfortunate time but that can happen at all clubs. No reason to change rules and add an extra pick.

You mean like Walsh, McKay, Curnow and Weitering? Silvagni, Stocker, Honey and Kemp are very promising young talents too. Or does actual data not support your agenda?
