I've been tracking the autopsy threads through the season and marked down the top 5 players in the votes after each game to find out our player of the year. I did it mostly as a fun way to analyse how we all viewed the players across the season round-by-round. Maybe it will change your perspective of how a player faired this season? Who knows!

I'll list a few points for my process for your perusal in a spoiler at the end of the OP should you need some clarity on how I went about it.

Now, lets' get on with it! As a surprise to no one, Sam Walsh romped it in for our player of the year. Congrats to Walshy, I'm sure this is the highlight of your career so far! :beercheers:

The top 5 is as follows (quick note, the table reads as the amount of times x player received these votes, e.g. Walsh received 5 votes 13 times) (full table in spoiler)

Wow Coops - you've done a load of work. Muchos gracias. Were you tallying the polls that ODN opened the autopsy threads with? Or the POTY vote threads?

These were done via the Autopsy threads, I felt that peoples reactions to who had a good game would capture a different mindset to a specific POTY vote, if that makes sense. Maybe it wouldn't but it was my thinking.

Outstanding stuff, Coops93. This kind of thing takes serious effort...

Also, how spectacular is Walsh? He was our best player more often than the rest of the side combined.

Weiters aside, he had more votes than any other three players combined. He 'polled' in 19/22 matches!

Extremely impressive seasons by both Weiters and Harry. In the AA squad and serious credentials to make the final 22. Our elite bookends for the next decade!

Amazing to see Jsos in 4th. He really showed his value and utility this year.

Saad in 5th. A massive narni narni poo poo to those that have criticised his season. You might not like the pick 8 trade, but that's not his fault. You can't fault his effort or output.

Cheers Ferris.

It was clear pretty early on Walshy would run away with it. The whole top 3 was really.

It's great to see SOS thereabouts too. It was quite noticeable too that the majority of his votes came from rd 16 on, he didn't poll much before that at all.

Regarding Saad that's what I found interesting about the exercise. Guys that have the perception of underperforming but you look back game on game and he was in the top 5 often enough to finish top 5. Obviously wasn't as bad as people say.

Cripps too at 6 was similar for me. Perhaps below expectations in the end but maybe better than we would've thought also. Only just missing the top 5 isn't awful.

We have the 3 AA squad members in the first 3 positions so we know what we are talking about. JSOS being 4th is also a smart option.

I often wondered if we could use those votes for our POTY instead. They are prone to misuse however.
I feel like this way you get more immediate and balanced reactions? As you're picking any number of people you thought played well, the top 5 is simply ordered by the most votes, instead of selecting an outright top 5.

But like I say in the spoiler, that can be manipulated by your expectations for players. For example 20 touches by Cripps is below expectation and won't garner many votes, but 20 for SPS or Dow might get a vote for a good game.
