I've been tracking the autopsy threads through the season and marked down the top 5 players in the votes after each game to find out our player of the year. I did it mostly as a fun way to analyse how we all viewed the players across the season round-by-round. Maybe it will change your perspective of how a player faired this season? Who knows!
I'll list a few points for my process for your perusal in a spoiler at the end of the OP should you need some clarity on how I went about it.
Now, lets' get on with it! As a surprise to no one, Sam Walsh romped it in for our player of the year. Congrats to Walshy, I'm sure this is the highlight of your career so far!
The top 5 is as follows (quick note, the table reads as the amount of times x player received these votes, e.g. Walsh received 5 votes 13 times) (full table in spoiler)

[*]I employed a 5-4-3-2-1 system
[*]In the case of a tie the players would receive the higher vote with the next spot being vacated. I.e 2 players tied for 3 votes, so each player receives 3 votes and no player receives 2, so the votes count as 5-4-3-3-1. This happened more than expected, there was even 1 round with a 3 way tie!
[*]Round 9 didn't have a poll, so instead I used the AFL fantasy points to order the top 5. I ummed and ahhed as to whether or not to leave the round blank but decided to go ahead with the votes. I know AF points aren't exactly accurate in terms of who played best but I also didn't want my bias looking over stats handing out votes, so it seemed like an unbiased way to allocate votes, if flawed.
[*]It's important to remember that we as fans we vote on a expectations and bias. Some rounds may surprise you as to who polled votes but just keep in mind we do hold players to different standards and base who had a good game because of that bias.
[*]If you notice any of the maths off please let me know, I'll fix it up when I get the chance.
