Dont knwo what the coaches did wrong this year and where people get the idea that blokes like Selwood or Kennedy are going to be interested in becoming assistant coaches the year after they retire to a Club they have zero connection to...or what they have in terms of knowledge that current coaching panel doesn't...

still it is the off season ... and anything goes I guess..

We should go and get Chris Scott and Scott Pendlebury while we’re at it - can always improve somewhere!

Can we just get a specialist goal kicking coach?

Get Sav Rocca or even Fev. Someone to work with everyone, but spend the most time with forwards.

A 5% improvement in set shot accuracy across the board would have meant we play finals this year.

Just having the players know they've done the work would be mean they'd be more confident in front of goal.

More like a 0.00000000005% improvement :( That Charlie kick from 30m that didn't make the distance will haunt me for a while yet

does that cross Fev off the list?...
Don't think so. Fev knew exactly how to kick it in almost every situation. Never tried a checkside from 45 that I can remember. Kicked the hell out of a drop punt. If H could kick 75% as well as Fev, we'd be near unstoppable.

I get what you're saying, but.... Woosh

O’Keefe steps away from AFL football
A replacement needed here unfortunately, looked to have done a good job.
Wishing O'Keefe all the best. From a long way from the action, it seems to me he has done a good job for us at the Blues...

No one said the coaches have done anything wrong and I don’t see any poster wanting to replace any of them… (though we do now with O’Keefe)

It’s been a discussion about bolstering our coaching panel after being hit along with everyone else throughout covid…

If the coaches aren't doing anything wrong - and a lot right - why do they need bolstering? How does the Club 'bolster' anyway - when there are limits to how much money you are allowed to spend- so who gets the chop?

That is where I was coming from - I would have thought these questions are obvious?

There is an increase of $500k in soft cap next year and we no longer have to pay 6 months payout of Teague contract…

My question Tena, is why spend it on coaches? JaB makes a good point about them doing well in one season. Given our major issue was injuries in 2022 maybe we'd be better off bolstering whatever deficiencies we have in medical or fitness departments.

100k on a part time goal kicking coach would be seriously helpful.

It isn't technique from 30 meters out mate - it is mental and game awareness within the context of a game. They both ( Charlie more so) need to understand where their set shot 'fits' into the whole game plan and have a look at where their team mates are positioned or not and adjust.

Even I can kick a ball 30 meters from dead in front or a 45degree angle - and I am a shyte kick of the football. Harry and Charlie are too prone to 'get it over with' - often not even giving their teammates a 30 second rest and set up time in Charlie's case. When it works it works and when it doesn't it sets up fast rebounds against us.

Like Owies and Durdin's brain farts leading to last minute losses and bye bye finals chances - learning to execute the little things over and over again - under pressure and maintaining composure is a developmental part of every player's resume - some players get it earlier and some take time.

But back to kicking - that 10-18 game against St Kilda would be my choice of when the Club knocked itself out of finals - and that is all on the talls and their errant set shot kicking - not technique based as much as lazy. Teh facts are that Harry is a long way below 50/50 to kick a goal from the left hand side of the field - which is a problem if that is where he is leading.

Our forward line functioned woeful at times.

We need a decent forward line coach.

I agree . That's why I said (in a previous post) that the goalkicking coach should be talking them through their decision making as well as technique.

Also, paraphrasing Kobe, having the confidence to do it when the whips are cracking because you've already done it a thousand times. What's one more time?

Having that confidence should also make it easier to go back and take their time with a proper routine rather than "getting it over with" to avoid overthinking.

Just going to pose the question... what're the chances we could lure Eddie back to take O'Keefe's post as Dev Coach?

My read for why he didn't stay was that we didn't have a suitable spot for him. Now it seems we do.

Would much rather try to pry Lappin out of the cats, he's headed their development for over a decade and best mates with Voss

I dunno if Eddie is the guy you want as a generalist development coach.

Ideal world would be a full time gig which splits his time 50/50 between being a specialist forward coach and an indigenous welfare officer/liaison/representative (whatever title they're going with). Playing into his specific experiences, strengths and passions seems to me the best way to utilise him.

For mine a Development Coach almost needs to be a jack of all trades with a solid CV of coaching experience in different lines.

Woeful? Meaning what specifically?

Thought we looked OK when we lowered our eyes kicking in to the F50 early in the season. And before we robbed the forward line of players to try and defend or transition from the back half. Neither of those would be forward coach issues. More us having to cover injuries and losing the midfield advantage we had.
