List Mgmt. Carlton Draft 2021

Has anyone watched the highlights of Mac andrews. For 200cms his movement and coordination is impressive. Agile and sharp for a guy his size. The knock on his game is whether he has the physicality for a big man in the AFL.

It’s been mentioned he might be capable of playing key position. Would be interesting if he could be a key defender. I would be checking that out because his ceiling is very high.

Hard to put a value in these types. Will he go first round with Dee's unable to match.
Or will he go later where they can match?

Colts though, as a 19 year old. That's like playing in the NAB League as a 20 year old.

Will be great to see his athletic profile. Face value has him worth a shot forward/ruck upwards of 20 disposals each of last 4 games. 12 goals in that period and in the last game alone 13 marks. A forward/ruck is exactly what we need to back up TDK, Pitto and Mirkov as well as a tall forward option. Being the skipper’s brother can’t hurt.

Add Akuei (hopefully) as a Cat B rookie and we go along way to sorting our developing keys.
We've looked at Josh before I believe, and I don't think he's particularly quick.

The more I think about what we should be going after if we keep pick 6 the more I reckon we should get Jye Amiss. Rachele would be a good pick up but seeing that we already have comparable players in our team I just don’t think he’d be able to impact any more than what Fisher does. Amiss would be a perfect get as he will probably come good at around the time McGovern’s contract expires. He’s pretty much a modern jack Gunston. Needs time to develop but he will have the opportunity to do just that as our forward stocks are okay at the moment.
If the focus is on midfielders then we should split 6 and go after roberts, Erasmus (if he’s still there) and Chesser. They are bigger bodies and are ready to go.

I see Rachele differently. Reports have him with plenty of X-factor, an aerial threat and “the best kick in the draft”. Might not be the highest priority, but a Cody Weightman type with more midfield creds would complement our list very well. The draft order projections will consolidate as we get closer. He may move in to the top 10, but would be spectacular if we could trade for two lower first rounders and nab Rachelle and say Bazzo (there are a couple of WA talls in that range potentially). Amiss shaping like a genuine top 10, but Harry and Charlie can form a combination for a decade, not sure another top range key forward is our greatest need. We need depth/ speculative KPP and one definite chance to take over from Jonesy in a couple of years.

I don’t see the desperation to add to our midfield further if we get Hewett by free agency. I really like Cerra and had him in front of Dow in their draft year, but not wedded to getting him. Happy to use the pick, but don’t want another speculative developing midfielder. We have Stocker, Kemp, Dow if he can learn to work both ways, Philp, Carroll and others to transition to the midfield, drafting an 18 yo mid first type would be a waste unless an outstanding athlete and kick.

Interesting suggestions and take.
I like bazzo as a late round acquisition. Good intercepter.
I truly got sucked into the rachele hype and then I watched some of his vision and hes basically a right footed Fisher. Due to Fisher being somewhat injury prone then maybe picking up Rachele could be a good option but we’ve also got Honey on the list who’s got a fairly high ceiling. Could be exactly the X factor player right under our noses.

Amiss however is someone who can start his career playing as the third tall behind Charlie and Harry. He can be what Georgiades is for port. He’s a hard working forward, who’s mobile and is a dead eye for goal.

I agree that we do have gluttony of mids but I think we have too many of the same types. Theres a good variety in this draft though. A lot duursma types who can be genuine two way runners. Erasmus is one we should definitely keep an eye out for.

Rankings long term:

Still going through more footage/games, but I would just about have Finn Callaghan at pick 1

If we kept pick 6, doubtful now, I would take Josh Ward or Matthew Johnson

Wish we had another late 1st/early 2nd, Sheldrick extremely underrated but would probably be there for our 2nd pick, but rate him way better than that

Van Rooyen or Bazzo with that latish 1st

A smokie/really late pick, that reminds me of Karl Amon, Issac Birt. Nothing of the kid, but has great courage and tough for his underdeveloped body. Really nice left peg

What are your thoughts on Akuie and McKay And to an extent Whitnal? Akuie was playing for Vic metro at the start of the year, so I assume he was rated as a good prospect and McKay was spoken about as being drafted last year, before the Covid nonsense started.

The lack of footy hasn’t been good to these guys.

I would add McKay to the list, not Whitnall or Akuei

Akuei not even as a Cat B rookie?

Free hit and a nice development prospect I would have thought.

There are a number of late picks, essentially free hits as such, Leek Alleer, Luke Taylor, Jack Williams that I believe are better prospects

But, not completely closed to the idea, given the raw talent

Interested in your opinion on Rachele Arrow? I generally find myself having a different value of draft/trade prospects than you but I like hearing what you have to say regardless. To me he is in the same boat as Gryan Miers, Pickett, Weightman etc. Specialist goal kicker whos pressure may not be elite but his ability to impact is unmatched in that position among his draft class. Also a ridiculously good kick delivering inside 50 and in general play.

Really hoping Austin can get the Cerra deal over the line without using our 2nd rounder and then bundle a few picks to get back in around 14-18 to pick up Rachele if he makes it that far.

Like those you mentioned as small forwards, they seem to go missing when the heat ramps up at the pointy end of finals and I see Rachele being similar

I prefer resting mids rather than drafting dedicated small forwards at that level of the draft.

Cyril Rioli was a freak mid at junior level, but lacked endurance. Many of the best small forwards have been late picks, rather than using a 1st rounder

2nd rounders and beyond, rather than reaching.

Interesting. I believe Rachele has much more upside as an explosive midfielder that kicks goals similar to a Petracca or Zac Bailey, maybe even a Luke Shuey. Has a real burst of speed and huge penetration with his kicking. Not as explosive as Petracca but a much more accurate kick who has good decision making too.

I think I'm in a similar boat to you in that I dont believe you can rely on small forwards to kick a large portion of your goals come finals unless they are absolutely once in a generation talents. I believe goal kicking mids and key forwards still remain the most valuable commodity when the pressure steps up. The defenders stick to their man too tightly and theres too much congestion for these small types to have the same impact they have in the regular season.

As I said though i hope Rachele is picked up somehow by Austin once the Cerra deal is closed. Walsh and Cerra are not goal kickers in the same mold of Danger/Petracca/Dusty they are just absolutely elite between the arcs and creating goals for others. I believe Rachele could end up the goals first disposals second type of midfielder.

I do rate Zac Bailey highly, not sure Rachele is in the same class, lacks that massive side step

I think our list has more pressing needs, IMHO

Jesus. Give this a rest. Do you want a kid who might come on in a few years or a 21 year old who is on now? Pick 6might get you SPS. It will get us an established mid.
Spot agree, we don’t have the luxury of the romance of selecting perhaps an unbelievable gun, Adam Cerra has shown good form and is ready to go.

I think I'd be more comfortable with addressing KPP next year if we can find some adequate stop gaps or mature age picks in this draft. Next years draft class is dominated by midfielders right now but there are a few more inconsistent but more athletically gifted KPP in it. This draft most of the KPP are decent footballers but generally lack the athletic potential to end up A grade talents. If it came down to Van Rooyen/Amiss or Rachele - I think Rachele has more upside and potential to be a game breaker while VR/Amiss are more of a need for the list right now but are more likely to end up quality players without being A tier talents like Weitering, Moore, Harry etc.

I would imagine Austin would have been in the ears of guys like Schlensog and Skinner regarding coming onto the list as we would be one club that could provide a fair bit of job security for an up and coming KPP as one or two injuries and they will get a good shot on our team by default.

I actually rate the talls late 1st through to the 3rd round, most being from WA. While they may not turn out to be elite, there are a number of options that I believe will do well at the next level

Van Rooyen is athletic, tough and can play both ends. Bazzo is extremely underrated, even moreso Williams. Taylor, Alleer, Polson.
