CARLTON Football Club is delighted to announce it has entered into an expanded partnership with one of Australia’s top universities.

Offering more sport-related courses than any other university in the country, La Trobe University will be Carlton’s exclusive Higher Education partner and assist in the development of a full education suite with the Blues over the coming years through a Sports Development Institute to be located at Ikon Park, Carlton’s AFL and AFLW home.

Excellent stuff commercially to get LaTrobe to find deeper pockets, as a partnership it’s great for both parties.

Have to say though, the logo on the shorts is hideous and is right up there with the worst logos we’ve had on our outfit....even worse than Mayne

It’s not fantastic but it is fine imo. Matches the red of the AFL logo and is not nearly as bad as the hideous green box of career one.

I don't want to be critical for the sake of it, however I can't help but wonder if it is in any way illustrative when we announce to members via email the new strategic partnership with La Trobe without actually putting La Trobe's logo in the email...

CLUB ANNOUNCEMENT

Dear Aph, :D

As announced to members first last night by President Mark Lo Guidice at Carlton’s Season Launched event, we are delighted to reveal a new major partnership with one of Australia’s leading universities, La Trobe University.

Offering more sport-related courses than any other university in the country, La Trobe will deliver a full education suite with the Club and will establish a joint Sports Development Institute to be located at Ikon Park.

In the coming months, we will unveil more detail of the new Sports Development Institute where young students will be given greater opportunity to study a range of diploma-level sports qualifications, with a pathway to enrol into the University's degree courses upon successful completion.

The La Trobe University logo will also feature on the players’ match day and training shorts for the next five years, positioning them alongside global partners, Hyundai and Virgin Australia.

20 years from now, traditional universities will be a thing of the past. Everything is moving online. A large real estate footprint and fancy gates are one thing for prestige, but its about the piece of electronic (lol) paper you receive with the letterhead on it that builds prestige. And the weight it carries in the marketplace.

This is progressive Carlton ... and I for one ... am all over it like a first year undergrad on redbull trying to submit that 12th hour assignment.

Well done CFC :thumbsu:

Way to cynical some of you. A lot of our Uni placements come from overseas. Imagine doing what Port are trying to do but through the back door? Its a shrewd, calculated, targeted decision.

Yes, and at the bottom of that email were the logos of Hyundai and Virgin... just seemed odd, or perhaps a little disorganised, to me that the La Trobe logo was not there.

Ugh, just as we get rid of the ugly green logo we now get an ugly red logo on the shorts.

The partnership is good but could it not have been a different logo? Larger text in white with no background would have been nice.

Nothing much to say, since everything I've thought about has been said. Great work!

As long as the CFC is displayed nicely on the front of every guernsey, nothing else matters.

WTF happened to Mercury Cider pairing up for the shorts sponsor?

Looks like this could go a similar path to WBD and their uni set up at the Western Oval.

Not sure how you can turn it into a revenue stream (underpants gnome), but could we do something with la Trobe and footy clubs in the north. Bundle up courses on coaching, fitness, RSA, responsible board management and governance, volunteering etc. Build a connection with clubs in the north and help them be leaders in their communities/roles.

Agreed that this would look better, like on the AFLW polo but doesn’t matter, was a last minute thing so maybe for next year? E5D23922-1E2B-4853-A6A9-5D34B37F7CB4.png
