There is so much going right for the Carlton FC right now, and I absolutely love it! I really proud with the clubs form this year and how the club has presented itself in many areas not just on the field. But, there are a couple things that bother me that I thing need addressing. It wouldn't happen at Collingwood, and that's the club we are chasing for No.1 honours. To do this we have to address all areas no matter how small they may seem, I have listed 2 issues below:

1/ Empty seats around our cheer squad:

Clearly, the members seat allocation policy needs addressing. The first area that should be full are behind our goals, yet in most games this year this is the only area of the ground that is empty. Its not a good look. The Collingwood area is a sea of black and white. Its intimading to other clubs, and thats what we need.

2/ Replaying rival teams club song after a win:

Ok, play their song once, but its absolutely not necessary for the ground announcer to scream out over the PA - "OK Cats fans lets sing the song again!"

Would they do this at Skilled stadium, or in Adelaide/Perth? No chance in hell! So why do we allow it?

Go Blues

I'll answer these from a personal perspective.

Firstly, i couldn't think of a worse part of the ground to sit than directly behind the goals where the cheersquad sit on level one, and would do anything i could to choose somewhere else to sit.

Secondly, if the other team did well enough to knock us off then let their fans be rewarded by hearing their song as many times as they like. If you dislike hearing their song then just walk out. MCG or Etihad aren't our home grounds anyway, its just where we play our 'home' games.

There's empty seats around the cheer squad cause it's generally packed with wankers. I would love to overhaul the cheersquad :D Not saying they're all bad, but gee there are some idiots there.

I would like us to take an approach like Melbourne and Collingwood do at the G and make it known with pictures and signage, just simple touches that let people know that it's out home game and they're on our turf (.. kinda)

Shit, even the dogs have flags with their legends on the ground.

Surely we could have some token, SOS, Sticks, Doull etc banners around the ground?

I still prefer to sit behind the goals but on level 2 or 3 not level 1. I like being able to view the play from an angle where I get watch the play unfold and can actually tell if it's going to be a goal or not.

If anyone plays AFL live, I use the end-to-end view which is pretty much the same!

To address the actual question, well I wouldn't sit with those muppets.

The opposition should be able to sing the song a couple of times if they beat us but like you, I do not like the announcer screaming 'let's sing it again!'.

Cheer squad probably does need overhaul. The old days it was huge, now we would have one the smallest going around.

Like I said, some people may not be bothered by this stuff, but to be the best sometimes its little things that propels you above the rest.

I would like a big cheer squad...and I agree it can have an effect on the overall atmosphere at the ground. The club is nowhere near proactive enough in encouraging a 'big' atmosphere.....however, on the flipside maybe it's just a consequence of the recent dark years. The fear of failure that I thought might affect our club for years has dissipated much faster than I expected. I feel the arrogance back in myself, which means it has more than likely spread through the club too....exciting times!...I like the idea of having a chant along the lines of Liverpool etc....my idea, which i have penned lyrics to, would be to the tune of Amazing Grace...To hear 50,000 Carlton fans singing to the tune of Amazing Grace would certainly get the emotion pumping in me!...though, maybe I don't need anymore adrenalin at the footy. I might just explode.

is anyone on this board a cheer squad member?
2 of my daughters used to be 2 years ago. But then last year they bought in this figure amount (forgot the exact amount but could be $600 or so) to have a reserved seat for the whole year & I wasn't going to pay that amount.... & besides, they are all a bunch of wankers that do nothing but abuse players when they do not play well. Not to mention he absolute foul language that comes out of their mouths.... I sit on level 3 general admission & I still find it hard hear them cheer when Carlton kick a goal.... Can only basically hear them when the rest of the crowd join in. They are crap & an absolute embarrassment to the club!

This mob should be as accountable as any regular supporter.

Exactly..... But nothing is ever done to any of them.
I agree with you Thy but it's like flogging a dead horse.
Some of these abusive ones even show up at the Bullants games.... They totally make me sick !!!
There is another guy in there that no metter what, just about every week, he will abuse opposition supporters & try to pick a fight with someone.

Shouldn't be too hard to identify the bloke and report him to the club. I'm not the dobbing type but perhaps a word in his festering lug might calm him down a bit.

Sounds a bit like he wouldnt take kindly to that sort of word...

Sounds like he feels his manhood when he is abusing opposition... then goes home to the real man around the house... his missus

Relax people, The cheer squad would have good and bad supporters just like any section of the crowd. I am not going to have a crack at my own, everyone has their own way of showing their passion - so lets gives the cheers squad a break. Do you really think they would be any different to Collingwood?

Perhaps what is needed is a leader or structure for the cheer squad, along with a code of ethics. That way it can be cleaned up to attract the masses, so we can fill the area behind the goals. A chant could be drawn up - one that we have already:

"HOW BOUT THOSE BLUUEEEEESSSSSS!"

And another - to the tune of come on Aussie:

"COME ON CARLTON COME ON, COME ON! COME ON CARLTON COME ON!

People want to be a part of the success we feel is coming - so the time is now.

Hope you don't have a problem with "The Lily of Laguna".

Once again your acid tongue spews forth a skerrick of palatable alkalinity.

As much as I would love to be a part of 50K Blues supporter singing EPL style songs I just cant see it taking off on mass.
If we were serious about starting a tradition as such I believe the only way would be to include a song-book in our membership pack.

There would be alot of interupted vers....BALL!!!!

How about an Aussie anthem chant: (not sure if its been done-seems so obvious)

Doesn't feel like home, never will feel like home because it isn't home!!!!

As for cheer squad, it's always been the smallest & least vocal. We where able to cover for this because of the seating/size of Princes Park.

Thats brilliant! To the theme of thunderstruck - that would sound amazing and people would actually do it. We should suggest this as a theme! Not after every goal but maybe last qtr when the club needs a push, the big screen could get it going.

Brilliant!
