It's nice to support a player but c'mon, Bentick has had enough time to show something. Yes, hes played some ok games and has been in our best 22, but remember, we have had the weakest side by a long way in the last 3 years. He wouldnt be getting a game elsewhere. If we keep him, Hackland and Blackwell in or 22 we'll be bottom 4 again.
Training match means little.
More pertinent to say, I hope he succeeds, or he is showing promise for this season. Hope is the key word as he is currently not good enough based on last couple of years.

Can you tell us who is gunna play the in and under role then? We have a plethora of outside mids and linkmen, but very few who can actually do the rattenesque role. Go through the list and you will see that there are only 4 players capable of filling this vital assignment. AB is at the top of the tree with regards to strength, nous and guts. He seems to get his hands on the pill first in most contests and if a clearance is not possible he always locks it in. You don't need Judd type speed or to be pretty to play this role. Will be one of the first picked as he has been working on clearance setups with Hampson, Judd, Murphy and co. Judd needs a blocker. Who do you think that he wants, Houla?![]()
Thats why Ratts dropped him a few times.....he knows he can become something special. Not many in and under midfielders can get 36 possesions against a top 4 side. He basically won us the richmond game as well alog with stevens.....i think ratts has a soft spot for him
And in the 4 games Bentick played under Ratts he had 36, 31, 24 and 17 disposal-games, averaging 27 disposals a game under Ratts![]()
We certainly shortened our game a bit and looked for options instead of blazing away and relying on crumbs.Everyone's possessions went up once Ratten took over. We went from one of the lowest possession sides to one of the highest. Scotland had 40 or so in one game.

second (or was it third) in tackles for the AFL. that's something.
Can't agree with you. While he doesn't set the world alight every week, as as0l0 said, Third in tackles until the finals and was only beaten by Kirk, swallow and one other who all played finals!!
We don't have anyone else anywhere near ready to take this possy off him. He is a rock, may not bust a pack or have the most polish, but does his job. He is another that should benefit from a better midfield
Thanks.

Looks like a lot of people here are going on blind faith. Tackle count or stats mean little
Carrazzo would be either a brilliant tagger or too good to use as a tagger . I rate the guy highly and would be bitterly dissappointed if he were not in our best 22 .Carazzo can play in and under and can tackle. If he is trained for the tagger role then he would be awesome. Remember, he was not trained for that role in 2007 but still averaged 4.6 tackles. Now with Judd/Stevens/Murph in the midfield, Carazzo's opps will be limited. Hes shown more than AB and deserves a spot in the 22. Hadleigh is also an option.

Don't really have a lot to say, but here goes anyway.
They trained on Oval no.1, which really helps you appreciate the great spirit among the players and the coaches. Very, very upbeat. Injured players doing laps were even calling out encouragement to other players about their skill level. Great to see.
Mainly a disposal skills kind of session. Lots of passing drills.
Just a few comments on some players I took a little notice of:
Fev's skill level is really elite. Kicks the ball beautifully. If he can concentrate on his footy this year (and you've got to think the extra leadership responsibility should help), and with the good support cast around him, should be a real treat to see him playing this year.
Stevens, Scotland, Murphy, Gibbs, all used the ball beautifully.
Russell really does have very good skills as well. On both feet.
Interestingly both Hampson and Aisake seemed reluctant to use their non-dominant foot in certain drills where it was required. Even though the coaching staff were barking at them to do so.
Both Benjamin and Shields were taken aside for extra kicking drills. In one of them Teague was getting Benjamin to kick without taking any steps at all (interesting because in a lot of the running drills, he seems to take more steps than most before kicking). Perhaps they're working on his balance when kicking. I thought he actually kicked fairly well today in the team drills I saw. He really is an incredible mover, and has pretty clean hands, so if they can get his kicking to a decent level, he should be good value.
Judd hardly trained. Heard on the radio that they're 'saving him' for a real go in the altitude conditions in South Africa.
Walker and Ackland are out of their slings.
Joe Anderson looked a real good size (surprisingly tall) for the small/medium sized defender that he is.
And as I said earlier. The spirit seemed really, really good among them.
Thank Pratt for getting Cordy from the Australian Cricket team.I think I may owe A.Bentick an apology as I didn't think he was up to AFL level.
Looks superfit and trim and trained really well on Saturday. Think he has a role to play.
Only two is a positive, but Lance was delisted.Apparently Cordy when he first came to the club said "we have 2 players that were fit enough to play AFL.." They were Caraz and Bentick...
Shows that our last quarter fade-outs were not due to the boys being "too young" as Pagan would say, but extremely unfit.
Brand new fitness regime- way more professional and styled towards modern footy, not the 2000-2001 era.

Some Pics from yesterdays training session. Got there really really late, so there aren't too many "action" shots. Still ..... might be worth a look at how good the lads are looking these days. BTW, I've somehow managed to sort them in reverse order ........ OOPs
