As long as he doesn't sook like the dickmond player , is ok .In some photos Hampson looks a bit like Richo![]()

Bit late to post this, but nonetheless...
Houlihan, Setanta and Harlett I didn't see. Fisher went off early.
Judd moves like a panther and did a stack of 200m runs around the oval, timing himself every time. It must be a good example to the other midfielders to see how much emphasis Chris places on his running.
Grigg looks awesome, a good build for a kid sized kid and oozes class when he kicks.
Good to see Montgomery teaching Benjiman how to kick. He sweeps his foot from the side which is not good, and Monty is trying to teach him to kick straighter. Repetition, repetition.
Fev seems to have wood for Judd, was always beside the great man.
Aisake looks a treat, and can kick very well now on the run.

I sneaked in for a look before they locked the gates although I can't guarantee the score. I think the white team beat the blue team with 7 goals to 6 (might have been 8 to 7) and a slight lead in the behinds column as well.
Goal kickers I can remember were White - Fevola 4, Kreuzer 1, Jacobs 1 and Wiggins 1. Blue - Edwards 2, Betts 1, Hampson 1, Simpson 1
My main interest was in the ruck and I thought both Hampson and Jacobs were very good against each other and especially around the ground (playing wide of each other) - Hampson with his pace and Jacobs with his positioning and excellent handball.
Cloke was okay in support of Hampson and Kreuzer less so in support of Jacobs - although he provides an extra midfielder when the ball hits the ground.
1. Walker dnp
2. Russell - played as a permanent forward - didn't do much
3. Murphy - played well in the midfield
4. Gibbs - played okay in the midfield
5. Judd dnp
6. Simpson - very good game from HB through the midfield
7. Bentick - longer hair / more streamlined / definitely faster / possibly the best midfielder
8. Kreuzer - CHF with some relief ruckwork - dropped marks in the first half and held some in the second
9. Saddo - FB against Cloke/Hampson - did what he had to
10. Hadley dnp
11. Ackland dnp
12. Lappin - put his jumper on but was mostly on the bench
13. Blackwell dnp
14. Fisher dnp
15. Browne - played as a small defender - neat but unspectacular
16. Grigg - small defender role with some impressive dash from the backline
17. Setanta dnp
18. Bower - HB - had lots of the ball but handpass to kick ration could have been as much as 10:1 - got caught with the ball the one time he tried to run with it and cost a goal
19. Betts - mainly in the midfield - close to Bentick for best midfielder - also a brilliant snap goal
20. Benjamin dnp
21. Austin - CHB against Kreuzer in the first half - kept him quiet and did lots of good team stuff
22. Hampson - possible BOG - rucked most of the first half and some of the second - very good at the centre bounce and an excellent linkup around the ground - great pace and used the ball well
23. Harts dnp
24. Stevens - in the midfield - played like it was a practice match, which it was, but the should take a leaf out of Simmo's book if he wants the captaincy.
25. Fevola - kicked 4:1 - none were easy shots - from marks that nobody could have stopped - good delivery from the midfielders
26. Anderson dnp
27. Armfield - looked okay and has pace but not as much as he thinks and he was chased down and tackled by fast Eddie
28. Cloke - Tall forward plus maybe a quarter and a bit in the ruck - still a chance to do some pinch hitting in the ruck but competitive at best
29. Scotland - practice match form
30. Waite - did a couple of things at CHB - practice match form
31. Bannister - typical active running game
32. Gave up 2 goals to Edwards in the first half but looked a great commodity running the ball out of defence
33. Houlihan dnp
34. Wiggins - the usual team oriented game
35. Aisake dnp
36. Pfeiffer - if he played, I missed him
37. Looked dangerous early but copped a hard knock in the 2nd qtr and not sighted thereafter
38. Jackson - good running game but missed a sitter shot at goal
39. Jacobs - trimmer and much more mobile - had a good contest with Hampson and beat Cloke when he was on the ball - quite impressive
40. Jamison - FB against Fev - played very well and could not do a damn thing about the 5 marks that were presented to Fev - looks like our best bet at FB
41. Hill - didn't notice him much
42. Shields - shame he is only a rookie - great pace running out of defence and really put his body on the line to spoil marks against taller opponents - a super-fast version of David Teague?
44. Carrazzo - played well in the midfield
45. Joseph dnp
46. Ellard - little dude with pace - kept getting around the ball
Pace -RiverRat said:42. Shields - shame he is only a rookie - great pace running out of defence and really put his body on the line to spoil marks against taller opponents - a super-fast version of David Teague?

Skill-
for AB.
Agreed. I think some Carlton supporters have been too quick to write this kid off in the hype over Judd & the return of Stevens from injury. I think AB has an important role to play as our tough in & under midfielder & as one of those who provides the blocking to allow Judd to run with the ball.
We are still lacking hard-bodied midfielders (it would be nice if Hadley could step into this role), therefore AB has a bit more to offer than some of our plentiful supply of outside mids.
Is it a good thing a member of the public snuck into our CLOSED session? What happens if someone from an opposition club had? Surely our security should be better than that.

I think Kouta's number will be retired for a year because he's a premiership player.Agree. AB's in my first 22 for round 1 if he has a decent pre-season. Has an important role in our side imo

Also according to the guys numbers for players, he listed Aisake at 35 and Joseph at 45? I thought Aisake used to be 45, and might be taking Kouta's number 43 jersey?
Also i've now read 2 reports where people have said Grigg's disposal looks real good. I remember there was a lot of talk that Grigg would be such a better player if he could kick more accurately. Can anybody else confirm that he's quite an accurate kick now?
Brett Montgomery was in charge of these players it it was all about ball handling, reflexes and kicking skills.
He split the boys into two groups about 20m apart and they had to kick passes to each other alternating between left and right feet. Grigg was fantastic at this as was Gibbs,
It's nice to support a player but c'mon, Bentick has had enough time to show something. Yes, hes played some ok games and has been in our best 22, but remember, we have had the weakest side by a long way in the last 3 years. He wouldnt be getting a game elsewhere. If we keep him, Hackland and Blackwell in or 22 we'll be bottom 4 again.
Training match means little.
More pertinent to say, I hope he succeeds, or he is showing promise for this season. Hope is the key word as he is currently not good enough based on last couple of years.

Can you tell us who is gunna play the in and under role then? We have a plethora of outside mids and linkmen, but very few who can actually do the rattenesque role. Go through the list and you will see that there are only 4 players capable of filling this vital assignment. AB is at the top of the tree with regards to strength, nous and guts. He seems to get his hands on the pill first in most contests and if a clearance is not possible he always locks it in. You don't need Judd type speed or to be pretty to play this role. Will be one of the first picked as he has been working on clearance setups with Hampson, Judd, Murphy and co. Judd needs a blocker. Who do you think that he wants, Houla?![]()

AFAIK Hadley is reputed to be a hard at it.....extractor type, along with Bentick and Carrots should win enough of the hard ball and dish it out to Stevo, Judd, Murph etc.Can you tell us who is gunna play the in and under role then? I'm with Brizzy. Bentick is far better at his role than anyone on the list. Ratts will know how important he is and will stick with him unless someone else pops up.
Judd is a fantastic clearer but the last place we want him is on the floor. Carrazzo doesn't have the Rhino factor that AB has, and Stevens....nuf said.

second (or was it third) in tackles for the AFL. that's something. It's nice to support a player but c'mon, Bentick has had enough time to show something.
