Finally found a training report for this week. Thanks to the one and only Dr Sherrin over on Talking Carlton. Here's his report on training this morning......

Colder than a witches tit in Melbourne this morning folks...and when SEN went on in the bedroom and I heard the dulcet tones of Tim Watson say it's 3 degrees out there - I thought 'F' it...I'm gonna get up and go to the gym. It didn't last long however...too many milfs in lycra doing boxercise to Good Charlotte dance anthems was about all I could take...so I jumped in the car and headed up Royal Parade to take in some nostalgia before the Heatley and the Harris get knocked down...where my memory flooded back to those glory days of the early 80's...when I was but a small boy and the unco gym milfs in lycra were but high school girls in the Heatley clamoring for the attention of the 'Buzz' and Kenny Hunter....
....I awoke from my daydream to more lycra...this time in the form of Juddy and the boys and Jammo in rehab who spent his time in kick-to-kick with Skinny Lappin and in good spirits. Bret Thornton was there...kicked the ball very well today - but there wasn't much lateral movement done and whilst the left knee was strapped up tight - he looks right to go. Clokey, Banno, Jacko, Ando, Austin, Pfeiffer, Armfield all trained and trained very well. I want to single out Dennis Armfield...I've been a regular at training this year...he's missed a few targets in most sessions...but he was sharp today...in fact they all were - the only glaring error I saw was a lazy kick that skewed off the side of the boot of Waitey...but he ran to the back of the group and went down quicker than Tania Zaetta on an Aussie soldier to do his 5 pushups which was good to see.
So here's some other observations from the morning..
* Last week I spotted the Lions spy at training in incognito. This morning the Freo spy was pretty hard to miss! Well - it's hard not to be spotted in a purple tracksuit with an anchor emblem on the front even if you are pushing 70 years of age. An old collegue of Hughsey's I'd say...who saw him, chased him, but lost him in the sun that was streaming onto the oval as the temperature lifted on and off the field.
* Brad Fisher trained the house down...lead really well, demanded the ball and could be heard clearly. Has been down - but if training form can translate into game form...he'll have a good one.
* Fev is a great trainer...enjoys himself out there and is full of encouragement to the other boys.
* I know we gave up pick 20 in the Judd deal which the Eagles used on lanky forward Tony Notte - but had we had it...I've no doubt it would have been used on Steven Browne...this kid oozes class - in a few years the club is going to have to stock some '15' guernseys. If I was a kid - I'd want one now.
* Shaun Grigg did some hard running through the corridor today. Gets critisized for being a bit of an onlooker sometimes - but he showed some dash and skill today and I honestly believe he's just one of those kids you leave in the team, gradually give them more responsibility and by age 21 it'll click and pay you back in spades.
* Talking about responsibility - if there's one guy who's exceeded my expectations this season it's Paul Bower. No longer does he run around like a chicken with its head cut off - he is becoming a very good attacking backman...I'd love the club to be showing him a few Grant Birchall video's..as I think PB can become just as attacking and skillful as Birchall is to the Hawks.
There wasn't a lot to be disappointed about this morning. We have a young exciting list who are getting better under a team of coaches who have a good understanding of what needs to be achieved.
Eddie Betts is psyched for this weekends' game...when he gets the ball in our forward line the roar of "Eddie" that echoes around the ground should be twice as loud as it usually is.
I think Ratts will have some surprises for Mark Harvey come Saturday arvo...I expect our midfield to get first use of the ball...I expect our forward line to work well and our defense to repel most attacks - forcing Pavlich out of the forward line will be deemed a win in my eyes. I expect the unco milfs in the gym will have nothing on the Kepler Bradley vs. Setanta O'hAilpin show we're likely to see tomorrow and yes....I expect to win.
Go BLUES!
