Apologies if this was done to death at some other stage, I looked but didn't find a thread.

With Bradshaw seemingly off the list and Maguire a likely starter, Waite looks the obvious choice to rebuild the forward line around post Fev, I think playing a (2005-2008) Pav-style FF/CHF role.

I imagine Carlton will be eager to bring in and develop Henderson and get some more out of Fisher, does O'hAilpin figure in still? Plenty to choose from in the smalls/roving forwards with Betts, Yarran and Garlett. Houlihan? I always thought Walker could prove ok forward, is he a possibility to add some mid-size class?

Interested in thoughts on the new look Carlton forward line.

bit early for a dream-team discussion.;) Anyhow, here's the starting lineup for the NAB cup:

HF: O'Keeffe Hampson Yarran
FF: Garlett Henderson Tiller

it might be hard to see how it goes. but it will be un-predictable. oppositon teams wont be able to work out where the ball is going to inside 50.

the more options the better, which allows the defenders from others clubs to go one on one with foward line players, n wont have to go to the same player everytime and have 2 or 3 defenders blocking his path.

makes it different and exciting. how many clubs have been successful in the afl with the sole full foward kicking 100 goals a year. i can only think of lloyd, dunstall and franklin who r the only 3 in the afl to play in a winning flag.

but u sort of think y didnt Ratten & coaching staff try a foward line set up n strategy to not allow the ball going to fev all the time i know he draws the ball a lot but the mids we have a smart enough to either go for a better option to goal n if fev was in the open where he can be used then they could of used him. the foward line could of still have been un-predictable with fev in the team, but to late now. oh well we move on

he could of change it if he wanted to. thats a question i'm trying to figure out. Go Blues :footy:

Mine would look something like this:

HF: Yarran O'Hailpin Robinson
FF: Betts Henderson Kreuzer/Hampson

O'Hailpin will be our lead up forward, who I thought did a pretty good at this in 2009. As long as he can get his body right, he could be a pretty good option for us there. Henderson in the goal sqaure, and I doubt we'll see him at all in defence.

Kreuzer & Hampson can rotate in the FP, with the other one either off the ground, or in the ruck.

garlett waite yarran
betts setanta henderson

i think henderson needs two bigger players in that forward line for him to get the third biggest defedner on him. It will help him develop quicker.

Plus i think setanta will develop even more from the goal square. Asking him to play CHF, the hardest position in the game is too much. Let Waite do the work at CHF..he has the skills, can read the game well and will set up a lot for us in that forward line.

garlett, betts and yarran will give us lots at ground level.

Robinson is another option, he keeps the ball in the forward 50 well, but i see him being used in many positions next season because he has so much heart and toughness.

my preffered forward line:

gartlett Wait Kreuz/Hamo
Yarran Hendo Sentata ( or eve Peter Labi)

i read an article in the age a while ago talking about Peter Labi and Zak Touhy, and how they can make an immediate step into AFL. ( Especialy Touhy)

I think come long term our half forward will look like this

Yarran Hendo Labi

Yarran to deliver to fowards

Labi playing the ROK role, marking, athletic half forward

Hendo, the big bustling CHF

every year we hear how Walker is carving it up in the pre season. He's the fittest man at the club, even fitter than Judd but then injures his shoulder and is effectively out for the rest of the year. From what I have read the surgery that he had this year will finally fix his shoulder and he should hopefully be able to play a full injury free season .

With that said where should he play?

Back - no, we have enould tallish mobile rebounding backmen ie : Bower, Thornton.
Mid - no, Judd, Murphy, Gidds, Mclean, Simpson, Carrazzo, Scotland etc.... enough said.
Forward - yes, with Fev gone, Cloke delisted there are openings in the forward line for him. He is not the best shot at goal but we could use him as a hit up half forward. Just get him to constantly run and present (like ROK). He doesn't have to play the key CHF posy but can play a running, marking half forward.

I hope so, as he did show a bit toward the end of the season

With regards to Walker, i'm not sure where his best position is, given that he has all but missed two years of footy. I'd like to see how he goes on a wing to start with, and then take it from there. Fingers crossed he can get though this pre-season injury free.

For mine, he's always look best playing off half back and giving us rebound and I think he's the ideal long term Scotland replacement.

Walker Bower Russel
Thornton Jamison Armfield

With guys like Austin and Browne getting a crack in there too.
I think Waite should play permanently up forward unless we are desperate for support down back, similar to how we played Whitnall in like 2001.

Backs: Joseph, Jamison, Thornton
Bower,
Waite, Russell, Austin,

Armfield, Maguire, Carrazzo, Johnson, Browne

Midfield: Gibbs, McLean, Walker,
Judd, Murphy, Simpson, Scotland, Hadley, Griggs

Rucks: Warnock, Hampson, Jacobs Kreuzer,

Forwards: Yarran, O’hAilpin, Robinson
Kreuzer, Henderson, Betts, Houlihan, Hampson, Garlett

This will be 32 players that we will be picking our team from
we also have
Pick 12, Zach Tuohy, Peter Labi, Anderson and Tiller to prove that they can play

I don’t think Wiggins will be on the list and Fisher is not up to it

Our forward setup will change a lot throughout the season no doubt, here's a few examples of how strong it can look.

HF: Chris Yarran; Lachlan Henderson; Jarrad Waite
F: Eddie Betts; Matthew Kreuzer; Andrew Walker

HF: Chris Yarran; Setanta O'hAilpin; Andrew Walker
F: Jeffery Garlett; Jarrad Waite; Lachlan Henderson

HF: Ryan Houlihan; Jarrad Waite; Mitch Robinson
F: Eddie Betts; Lachlan Henderson; Matthew Kreuzer/Shaun Hampson

HF: Andrew Carrazzo; Lachlan Henderson; Mitch Robinson
F: Jarrad Waite; Shaun Hampson; Eddie Betts

...and then of course midfielders like Bryce Gibbs, Marc Murphy, Judd, Simpson etc. can rotate through. I'd also quite like to see Rhys O'Keeffe developed into a half-forward, he has a great set of hands on him and is a brilliant kick, he's a pretty tough kid as well.

F: Eddie Betts - Lachlan Henderson - Chris Yarran (Jeff Garlett)
F: Mitch Robinson - Setanta O'hAilpin - Andrew Walker

Not all Carlton forward lines is spuds!

Like the look of the 1st forward line structure:thumbsu::thumbsu:

FF: Garlett Waite/Kruezer Betts
HF: Yarran Henderson Pick12: hopefully Jake Carlisle

He is not good enough in front of goals and continually misses when he gets the chance.

There is one option that hasn't been looked at yet. This one has been used in the NAB cup a couple of years ago and was successful. That option is moving Thornton into attack. I have seen him play forward, he is good at beating his opponent one-on-one, great at marking overhead, and can kick straight (and certainly loves being forward). This could be a viable option worth considering;

FB: Joseph, Jamison, Armfield
HB: Walker, Bower, Russell
HF: Hampson, Henderson, O'hAilpin
FF: Betts, Thornton, Yarran

OR

FB: Joseph, Jamison, Armfield
HB: Bower, O'hAilpin, Russell
HF: Hampson, Henderson, Carrazzo
FF: Betts, Thornton, Yarran

I left Mitch Robinson out of the Forward line because I'd like to see him on the opposite wing to Kade Simpson as he is a former midfielder, has a big tank and good field kicking skills.

Also, not forgetting Houlihan and Scotland rotating through, HF & HB respectively.

Kruezer should stay as a primary mobile ruckman changing with Hampson.

...Erm almost forgot Waite!

He could return as either CHB or Play HF, putting O'hAilpin on the Bench.
OR, another option

FB: Joseph, Jamison, Armfield
HB: Bower, O'hAilpin, Walker
HF: Hampson, Henderson, Waite
FF: Betts, Thornton, Carrazzo

Russell coming off the bench and rotating through Back/Forward

So what's better than one bloke who averages 5 goals per game? two guys that average 3, three guys that average 2... We are better off without 1 sole target, exciting times ahead!
