After injury ended his 2017 campaign early, Patrick Cripps has enjoyed a full pre-season.

The young Blues midfielder returned to training in time to begin from day one and has been among the most impressive performers, continuing to build his tank and his body.

Cripps and captain Marc Murphy have reportedly led by example at the club, with a host of other youngsters following suit in the hope of more senior opportunities.

Zac Fisher will be hoping for more midfield time in 2018, while Paddy Dow has bulked up in the hopes of earning a debut as early in the season as possible.

Charlie Curnow and Sam Petrevski-Seton have continued to impress.
Good to see Fish get a mention alongside Cripps, Murph, Dow, Samo and Charlie. Could be a big year for the little guy!

Murphy stays on as captain.

Sam Docherty and Patrick Cripps assuming joint vice-captaincy roles.

Simmo and Ed stay on in leadership group.

Kreuzer, ASOS and Plowman also in the group.

MARC Murphy will become one of the longest-serving consecutive captains of the Carlton Football Club, after being unanimously endorsed by his peers to lead the Blues for a sixth straight year in 2018.

Having been appointed captain in 2013, the 30-year-old sits behind only Stephen Kernahan, John Nicholls, Ken Hands and Ern Henfry as the Blues’ longest-serving captain across consecutive years.

Good on Murph.

Doc and Cripps clearly the anointed successors (well, der).

Simmo no longer VC, but fair enough given age and young leaders.

ASOS a little bit of a surprise, but nice to see and clearly an endorsement of his experience and impact on the group.

And FINALLY some love for Plowman!

Our 2018 Captain:

He seems really comfortable, does Marc. Speaks glowingly of a lot of players as you would expect. A few interesting takeaways:

- When talking about the leadership group, he makes note of 8 guys wanting to lead the club and says 7 of those will likely play every week. Means that ASOS is seen as well and truly in the picture for Round 1
- Lot of love for Plow now... won't accept any complaints of this in 2018
- Murph talks about guys looking to fill the void down back, citing the obvious ones in O'Shea, Mullett and Byrne but also Cuningham who has apparently been training down back a bit... very interesting indeed

Very nice, probably deserves its own thread.

Agresta as the dedicated list manager reporting to SOS (who should now age far less quickly) and Bleach as a recruiter.

On the LG for 2018, another interesting thing to note is that of the 8: 4 are noted defenders, while the other 4 are midfielders (Kreuz included as ruck). No players to 'lead' across the forward 50, though that task - in an unofficial capacity - will likely fall to Levi and Matty Wright.
