Provide some excitement, He is bland boring and monotonous he provides no colour at all.
He is clearly not a confident media performer although i think he has improved over the last couple of years.

Would be difficult for someone who is naturally quite reserved to put on a sparkling media display.

http://www.carltonfc.com.au/news/2018-01-31/two-new-additions-to-recruiting-team

Two new recruiting guys. One from Sydney, One from Hawthorn. Great work Blues
Very nice, probably deserves its own thread.

Agresta as the dedicated list manager reporting to SOS (who should now age far less quickly) and Bleach as a recruiter.
Like the recruiting recruiting. I’m reading that in part as us moving to next phase - structuring payments etc to retain talent. Experience from Swans and Dorks.

There’s a plan!
Excellent. Been wondering for over 12 months whom SOS was adding to his team apart from Will Brodie.
Been impressed with way Sydney been re-generating their list in recent years with many good young players so getting another guy from there is a good source to help us remain number 1 for a long long time when we get there in a few years.

So happy the club after 3 decades of draft and salary cap era been around we finally woke up to take it seriously towards end of 2015. Worked out strategy long term with SOS steering the ship and putting the pieces in place to be the best at it.

Reserve the right to roll it out again as warranted. Been a year long campaign to get some recognition for how good he is.

This is only the beginning
Step 1 was give the Plow enough love.
Step 2 was get the Plow in the leadership group.
There's a few steps to go, but:
Step 125 is WORLD DOMINATION

"The Blues have one of the most talented young lists in the AFL with Silvagni reshaping the club since he returned from Greater Western Sydney.
The appointment of Cain Liddle as CEO has led to the Blues embarking on a new phase under coach Brendon Bolton and skipper Marc Murphy."
And they have just relised this. pfft thats old news.. been hiding under a rock pretty sure.most of us baggers seen this coming as soon as Bolts & SOSwalked in the door.

- modest young man. “Hasn’t thought about the all Australian, I’m all about the team”
- Cuningham, Curnow and Dow training the house down
I love everything about this, particularly the 2nd statement.

Cuningham is a bit of a wildcard, would be extremely useful should he solidify his best 22 position.

On the LG for 2018, another interesting thing to note is that of the 8: 4 are noted defenders, while the other 4 are midfielders (Kreuz included as ruck). No players to 'lead' across the forward 50, though that task - in an unofficial capacity - will likely fall to Levi and Matty Wright.
Or perhaps young guns in Charlie, Harry, Pickett, Garlett, LeBois, etc are seen to possibly be running the forward line by the end of the year so no need for a senior leader per say...

So much growth in our last three years top 10 draftees. Can’t believe marchbanks rating. Weitering and him have a heap of upside.

That's for their debut season only.
As it stands on the AFL Player rankings Marchy is behind Petracca, Wright, De Goey, Moore, Cockatoo, and Brayshaw.
AF averages from last year he's behind De Goey, Brayshaw, Petracca and Wright.
SC averages from last year he's behind Petracca, De Goey, Brayshaw and Wright.
He's doing alright. A big part of why his AFL Player Ranking is so low (104.2 to #1 Petracca's 458.7) is that he's only played 23 games over 3 years, most of the guys ranked above him are in that high 30s to 50 range. Give him another year or two I reckon and we'll see him start to edge ahead of Wright and Moore (and probably tail Petracca and De Goey who play positions that lend themselves more to the various fantasy scoring methods)

Provide some excitement, He is bland boring and monotonous he provides no colour at all.
And there I was thinking that was the role of the club media department...

Could've sworn it was the captain's job to lead the playing group on and off field, and act as a conduit between coaches and players, not entertain the supporter base during interviews.

Taylor Walker - peanut.
Dayne Beams - bland.
Marc Murphy - bland.
Scott Pendlebury - bland.
Dyson Heppell - bland + dreadlocks.
Nat Fyfe - bland.
Joel Selwood - bland + bandages.
Tom Lynch - never heard him talk.
Callan Ward - bland.
Jarryd Roughead - bland.
Nathan Jones - bland.
Jack Ziebell - bland.
Travis Boak - bland.
Trent Cotchin - bland + chin.
Jarryn Geary - hack.
Josh Kennedy - bland.
Shannon Hurn - bland.
Easton Wood - bland.

Think that pretty much covers it...yeah? (Most) AFL clubs pick captains that the coaches and players respect as people and footballers, based on their ability to lead and communicate effectively around the club and on the field.

The captain doesn't need to be, nor should they be, an overblown "character" or fame-hound. There's a good reason guys like Dane Swan and Brendan Fevola didn't captain their sides, and seeing how Taylor Walker conducted himself during Jake Lever's exit from Adelaide is a good indication of how an "outgoing" captain can be detrimental to public image.
