Or perhaps young guns in Charlie, Harry, Pickett, Garlett, LeBois, etc are seen to possibly be running the forward line by the end of the year so no need for a senior leader per say...
Wright and Casboult are our forward leaders and could be forced out of the side this year (all due respect especially to Wrighty) so our options are limited at the moment.

And there I was thinking that was the role of the club media department...

Could've sworn it was the captain's job to lead the playing group on and off field, and act as a conduit between coaches and players, not entertain the supporter base during interviews.

Taylor Walker - peanut.
Dayne Beams - bland.
Marc Murphy - bland.
Scott Pendlebury - bland.
Dyson Heppell - bland + dreadlocks.
Nat Fyfe - bland.
Joel Selwood - bland + bandages.
Tom Lynch - never heard him talk.
Callan Ward - bland.
Jarryd Roughead - bland.
Nathan Jones - bland.
Jack Ziebell - bland.
Travis Boak - bland.
Trent Cotchin - bland + chin.
Jarryn Geary - hack.
Josh Kennedy - bland.
Shannon Hurn - bland.
Easton Wood - bland.

Think that pretty much covers it...yeah? (Most) AFL clubs pick captains that the coaches and players respect as people and footballers, based on their ability to lead and communicate effectively around the club and on the field.

The captain doesn't need to be, nor should they be, an overblown "character" or fame-hound. There's a good reason guys like Dane Swan and Brendan Fevola didn't captain their sides, and seeing how Taylor Walker conducted himself during Jake Lever's exit from Adelaide is a good indication of how an "outgoing" captain can be detrimental to public image.
So your saying that our next captain will be..................Weitering?

Wright ain't going anywhere, best 22 this year and probably next. Put some speed around him, he'll feed them plenty and teach them a thing or two at the same time.

I just want him to play as a proper full time forward this year and see what he can do.

Has Wright got an injury I don't know about? Why will our leading goal kicker on the right side of 30 be "forced out"?
It's quite simple - many are seduced by youth and throw all logic out the window as a result. To some it is more important to be young than to be good and have runs on the board.

Wright has been terrific for us since crossing over from the Crows and a spot in our forward line is his to lose.

Big fan of Wright, but being our leading goal scorer isn't exactly high praise - the competition for the title has been somewhat underwhelming the past few years.

We'll presumably be going into games with 2 talls (from Casboult, Charlie and Harry, pending fitness).
JSOS plays the third tall role.
There will be mids rotating through (Murphy, Curnow, Cripps, Kennedy, SPS, Fisher, Cuningham, Lang, Pickett, Garlett, Dow - all dependent on selection of course).
Then there should be at least one small pressure forward / goal sneak.

Matty Wright isn't a true small forward (ie. Eddie Betts, Cyril Rioli), and we haven't really had an AFL-quality true small forward for a while. I can see Wright holding his spot as a pseudo-small forward up until the point that another option presents itself (ie. Lebois).

The way I look at it - if our other small-ish mids spent 90% of their time in the forward line...would they kick 30 goals in a season? I suspect so. Therefore Wright's not offering anything that we can't get from another midfielder, but the position he's taking on the field should ideally go to a small pressure forward rather than a midfielder anyway.

Rhys says:

“They were the ones who wanted me to come down and play for them. It left a bad taste in my mouth.

Eric says:

"We don't want Palmer. GWS are trying to foist him on us to relieve cap space".

Think his frustration is understandable. The club threw him a lifeline and he basically never actually got a chance to play with us, whether by design or circumstance. Perhaps his non-selection was justified but it still wouldn't leave him feeling positive about his time here.

I'm turning into such a softy as I get older.

I agree, I am sure he could have been given a few more games, if nothing more he was a experienced body that could have helped out in the middle.

I found it interesting that he liked GWS but they got rid of him as a salary dump (likely no games if he stayed a giant?), yet bagged Carlton for not giving him a go.

Anyway, given what ten cent piece has said, he sounds like he wouldn’t have fit team culture. ****hole.
What did ten cent piece say ?

It's gonna take a fair bit to force him out. Comparing him to (for arguments sake) Pickett, Thomas, Lamb, Fisher and Cuningham, Wright is obviously way ahead on goals, up there behind Thomas for disposals (16 and 17 respectively), leads for contested possessions, score involvements, 2nd for marks behind Cuningham.
At the end of the day he's probably our most consistent forward and probably first picked in the forward line (perhaps second behind Charlie now...)

Sure will.

Wright is no star but he has barely put a foot wrong since joining the club. He is a clever and effective footballer who has consistently proven himself dangerous around goals.

He was best 22 when he came across and his performances since have only solidified his position in the side. It is up to those behind him to chase and overtake, it'll happen at some stage but we're not at that juncture yet.
