On one hand, beggars can't be choosers, and it isn't as though Hawthorn/Brisbane/Sydney never received a priority pick.

On the other, that's how you win hearts and minds; you take it on yourself to claw it back, earn the respect of the competition by doing it the hard way.

It's a good news story, if nothing else. It does trouble me, though, if we're doing it for the look rather than admitting we are actually that bad this year.
Do you think we will ever have respect of the competition? Has anyone forgotten about our salarycap breaches? No ome else's breaches ever get mentioned anywhere but here.
We are the team they love to hate.

The whole point of tribalism is to be feared not respected - see Machiavelli - he had some good thoughts on how populations work. Respect is cheap currency - fear is solid gold.

And Richmond were Premiershipmond, Geelong were the handbaggers, Collingwood were poor as dirt and going nowhere onfield, and Hawthorn would've merged with Melbourne.

Of course, if we turn it around, we can get the respect of the competition, but that should be considered a side effect of success. Do not care what they think, whether you're successful or not, and you'll be thoroughly better off, but nothing is irretrievable.

Except Essendon.

It won't be good regardless.

360 very keen to talk Melbourne up this Monday yet last Monday it was about how horrible a club we are. I wonder why....

Despite their injuries Adelaide had a far deeper midfield than we were able to put up against Melbourne, so suddenly a 109 point loss as compared to a 91 point loss doesn’t look so bad.

Clubs fabricate an us versus them mentality, most times out of nothing. A group emotion that can be quite powerful

But with us it is legitimate, it just permeates everywhere. Can't believe how many are lined up to give us a kicking at any opportunity

I hope the club is bottling this sh!t up!! This is a fair dinkum us vs. them

Agree... we saw Deledio leave to supposedly give himself a better chance at success - so he thought. Drastically sad (or karma some would say) consequences of this concept gone wrong. Much more to gain in staying at the Blues to be part of the start of our 'stage 3' execution..
Nathan Buckley says hi. Left Brisbane for premiership glory and missed out on 3.
