Cancer battles inspire fit-again Laidler

However, Laidler's relative inexperience didn’t stop him from nominating himself – albeit unsuccessfully – for the Blues' leadership group. But he won’t change his approach. His oft-heard voice – delivering both encouragement and direction – is a big part of his being, and his value, as a player.
.....Laidler nominated but not accepted?

Not completely unexpected. Probably belongs in the leadership group as he comes across as a natural leader on the field, and I'm sure we'll see him there soon enough, but for now I'd prefer he worried about getting himself right and back on track over and above anything else.

AFL, Blues in Visy talks

FRESH talks between AFL officials, Carlton chief executive Greg Swann and Chris Judd's manager Paul Connors could lead to a compromise over the star's third-party deal with club sponsor Visy.

AFL.com.au understands Judd's management is trying to avoid going through a formal grievance tribunal hearing that could result in a win or loss scenario in favour of one side or the other.

In November, AFL operations manager Adrian Anderson informed Carlton that Judd's deal with Visy, believed to be worth as much as $250,000 a season, would have to be included in the salary cap from 2013.
With Anderson vacating the role last month, new discussions are advancing and it now appears the most likely outcome is a negotiated deal.

Andrew Jarman. So I'll take with a grain of salt until made official. He said should be in news in the next couple of days.

Also went on about Waite's 'injury' - harping on about being injury prone, but failed to acknowledge it was a simple finger dislocation!
Saw that on twitter about Jarman and I never take any notice unless it's official from the Club.

No doubt Scotland will be fined and suspended.

Carlton has today imposed a two-match ban and ordered Heath Scotland to make a $3000 donation to a relevant charity, after he pleaded guilty to one charge of assault last year.

The charge relates to an incident Scotland was involved in at the Mulwala Ski Club in January 2012.

Carlton General Manager of Football, Andrew McKay said the decision for Scotland’s ban was that he did not meet the Club’s high expectations for player conduct.

“The Club is very disappointed in Heath’s actions as they did not uphold Carlton’s core values and behaviours,” he said.

“Heath has expressed considerable remorse for his actions and will make the $3000 donation to Les Twentyman’s 20th Man organisation, who he has worked closely with over the past 12 months.”

This organisation provides educational, sporting and counselling services to the homeless and disadvantaged.

“Heath understands this is a serious matter and accepts the Club’s reasoning for the two game suspension and donation,” McKay said.

Scotland will serve his two-match ban in the opening two rounds of the 2013 home and away season.

He will be available for selection during the NAB Cup, as well as play for Carlton’s VFL affiliate, the Northern Blues throughout his suspension.

McKay said the AFL had endorsed the Club’s sanction.

Not sure. He didn't start the fight and was defending his brother. The person he hit was also charged.

Didn't Hurley only get 2-3 weeks for bashing a cabbie?

I think Collingwood said they aren't going to do anything to Marley Williams either.

Yeah fair enough, never hurts to ask the question.
