Loving the stats ODN - excellent work.
Just noticed that “goals per game” cells for Lobbe Lang and Kennedy are not calculating as they should.

Updated table. Posted link to table in Google Drive as BF doesn't take Excel spreadsheets. Just remove the space between the bolded parts in the link in the OP.

Table here is not reading the daily age update from its location, whether that be Google Drive or Google Sheets. Spreadsheet experts might spot the issue for me.

26 of our 45 players are below our average age.
27 of our 45 players are below our average games played.

Even with retirements next year or older players being delisted, it is entirely likely that the number below our average age will still be similar as only 3 or 4 will move up into the 23 year old range and more 18 year olds are likely to be taken.

Going by that you can really see the club hitting free agency and trades hard to get our balance right. 4 x 25 year olds this year (all fringe), 2 x 24 year olds, 3 x 23 year olds, 2 x 22 year olds, 3 x 21 year olds, 18 x 20 and under.

People looking at our average age being inflated because of Simmo, Murph, Rowe, ASOS and Thomas and also games played are not looking at the big picture.

If we are very competitive this year with the list profile we have, we could be on the edge of a successful next 10 years. A massive window looming.

Of those 5 players, I think only Murphy will be on our list in 2019.

A large number of our under 24s next year will have played over 30 games come the start of 2019, currently:

59 Cripps
44 Lang
42 Weiters
28 Jack
27 Charlie
23 Marchbank
20 SPS
19 Kennedy
17 Fisher
17 Garlett
15 Williamson
11 Cuningham
10 Pickett
8 Macreadie

Very true.

I’d add that it’s not just total games experience we should be looking at but the relative experience.

Say hypothetically that everyone on that list plays 22 games (plus for arguments sake Plow 60 and Harry 2).

Yes, there’s quite a few who’ve surpassed 30 games. Plow & Cripps in the 80s, Weits & Lang 60s, Jack, Charlie, March, Samo and Kennedy all in the 40-50 range. Those raw numbers look ok by themselves.

What looks better and is possibly a better representation for us and our development is looking at the relative increase in experience. Using that hypothetical 22 games played, the group listed goes from an average of 25 games up to 47 which is a 90% increase.

Obviously it’s a bit too optimistic to expect 22 from all those guys. But even if we drop it to an average of 15 games played it’s still a 60% increase overall.

Hopefully this makes itself apparent over the course of the season. I’d be hoping this is reflected with for more consistent 4th quarters efforts and better decision making.

Lots of potential milestones next year in terms of games played.

But the one I'm looking to is the battle for first AFL goal between Caleb Marchbank 35 games, 3 behinds and Ciaran Byrne 22 games, 2 behinds.

Who is your money on to break the duck first and will they do it this year?
