easy solution to that guys..

they have not resigned;
- Lappin
- Campo
- That fat red prick

who were all paid a lot of money last season, they wont have any worries with the cap

They did participate, but they took a kid (Eddie Betts).

No doubt they kept that pick to get, and could thus, afford an out of contract player.

Unless they were stoopid enough to re-sign their players after the Plastic Cup, then they'll have plenty of room.

If Carlton have any sort of inkling that a player of Bartel's quality will be in the pre-season draft (and they're going to have a lot better idea than you, I, or bee_dee) they will make room, they'd be stupid not to. Not only because of the onfield aspect, but can you imagine the backlash from supporters if a ready made, quality young player like Bartel went into the draft and Carlton had to pass because of their salary cap?

The only way we'll get Bartel at pick 2 is if there's someone better at pick 1.

I know they have made some blues, if you pardon the pun, in recent times but I would be stunned if they had the first pick and couldn't use it. They'd surely trade/delist Lappin and Whitnal before they paid them 600+ plus between them and missed out on a Bartel/Grant etc. It might at best, from our perspective, afford us the opportunity to pick up a targeted player with a big 1 or 2 year offer that they can't accommodate but I doubt it.

id think Lappin would be gone, Campo struggling, while Fev who knows, and Whitnall will probably stay

i would think they will have room to move in PSD

The 3 unsigned players are on a total of 1.4 million this year due to being way overpaid and on back ended contracts.
Even if all of them stay it would be on about half that. Pretty unlikely they all would anyway.
So cant see the salary cap being a problem.

If your club wants to throw 500k a year at Bartel we will not match that.

Bartel is overrated. However he is young, but not a player to build your team around. Will never be the best midfielder in a premiership team.

the scum will have 350k for PSD so they will go for salopek.. unless they trade fev or fatty.. and they wont.. unless they get a top5 pick for fev and someone willing to take 300-350k... they will go in under the mindset of rebuild, save save save then spend up in the next 2-3yrs once the kids get developed more, they wont be wasting cap or cash to finish 16th-15th-14th again.. they are more than just 1big player off the bottom they know it we know it and will be waiting for next years draft..

Yep and Pagan has 3 years left on his contract so he can afford to rebuild.

Mick on the other hand has 1 year left and would feel that he has to do something. Bring in a Bartel or Luke Power. If it is ever going to happen it is now with a weak draft. Pick 5 might be worth trading.
Personally I would not but all this talk about NEVER trading draft picks is rubbish. You do it for the right deal. Only half of the top 10 draft picks when I looked it up from 99 to 2003 have become 'good' players and only a handful are 'guns'.
