Lightening rarely strikes twice with the storied coaches. (Lethal Aside), there have been very few fairy tales, and a lot of failures
But how many first time coaches get appointed vs previous premiership coaches getting appointed. In raw off the top of your head numbers it looks like a no brainer.

But a shit load more first time coaches fail than premiership coaches on there 2nd or 3rd go around. Malthouse didn't actually succeed until his 2nd and 3rd go.

Maybe they need to look at some Carlton faithful to get some bites
  • Dave Hughes
  • Robbie Williams
  • Radar
  • Abba
  • Bjorn Borg
  • Sam Edmund
  • Sam Pang
  • Donal Trump
Sure not good coaches (or even coaches) but at least they'd get some interest from this list.

Can you take Matthew Nicks off our hands?

I think we need to acknowledge that the game and coaching best practice has changed a bit.
Mick Started Coaching in 1984, 42 years ago. Lethal Started in 1986. The examples no longer carry much relevance to what Carlton need to do.

Modern successful coaches need a modern approach to the game. They are coaching Gen Z's, and they need to adapt.

Clarko was 38 when the hawks hired him, and built a great rapport with the players. He has seemingly found it much harder to do that at North where he way doesnt really resonate with these kids.

The next Carlton Coach needs to grow with these guys, not just come in and tell old war stories from another club.

I just hope we're not delusional about it.

Have a sinking feeling we won't listen to any prospective coach pitching a long hard road ahead, 6-7 years minimum before any sustained success etc. But thats exactly what its gonna be.

Yep, a lot of boards fall into the trap of going for the coach that says the team will be competitive the soonest, rather than the coach who is actually the most realistic of where the list is.

Think it will be a first time senior coach, Enright, Graham, Grigg

Wright might want Skipworth

They’ll go first time based on what they’ve seen from Melbourne.

IMO if blues are going to rebuild Hinkley would be my go to.

Agreed

If the people appointing the new coach can accept that this will actually be a rebuild and not a ready to go list they should do what melbourne did with Roos/Goodwin model
appoint Daddy Hinkley for 3 years with somebody like Enright to succeed

Think a rebuild is definitely on the cards, while adding some cheap youth and or role players
