VFL Carlton Reserves 2024

I watched the U18's Vic Country vs SA game the other night after the post that we'd signed Rudd in our VFL. Kicked 2 goals that day, but could have easily ended up with 4 or 5...which would have got the recruiters frothing at the mouth. As the commentator said "he has a real presence about him in the forward half." Seems very stiff not to have been drafted.

Listed at 193cm and 91kg, so around the same size as Charlie - although there were articles comparing him more to Jeremy Cameron. Great endurance, with vice like hands and a booming left foot kick.

The issue of course is that if he shows promise at VFL level, we're not guaranteed access to him in the MSD....although I'm tipping if he's starting to look the goods, we'll have a breathalyzer set up on Royal Pde the week leading into the draft :thumbsu:

Either way, given we're picking up a couple of running mids in this year's National Draft, someone like Rudd could complement our brigade of marking forwards and potentially release Lem to develop more as a KPD.

According to this article, we were possibly linked to him in last year's rookie draft.

Yep, if he stands out on the training track, he just needs a taste at VFL level with the likes of Lemmey, O’Keeffe, McMahon and third tall Moir keeping him out should we see fit to add him in the MSD.

A long way to go, but it is great to have him between the four walls at Ikon Park.

Surely Lemmey is groomed at both ends of the ground. Given where he is at and our existing talls. We have fewer young developing (genuine) KPD types, or more specifically lesser need. Weiters back against Charlie and Harry as forward staples who will be around for five years or more. While Lemmey will be a viable forward/ruck, O’Keeffe will be on a similar path albeit, more genuine ruck, so they will be in competition for a forward/ruck spot in a year or two with both likely to be up to the level.

As you stated, Rudd is more your mobile lead up type than a contested big boppa. He was played a little back, but in honesty didn’t show a great aptitude in that area. Premature gettiing excited over an overlooked player, but he is absolutely the type who could develop dramatically as his body matures.

It somewhat begs the question as to the reasons he was overlooked as he has the raw talent to make it. I shouldn’t over complicate things but it did surprise me at draft time.

We perhaps should not overlook Liam McMahon as a potential addition in favour of the shiny new toy either.

Today’s practice match will begin from 4pm, and will be live-streamed on the Richmond website, while fans heading into the MCG early can also attend.

Carlton Reserves practice match squad v Richmond
2. Lachie Cowan, 25. Jaxon Binns, 27. Marc Pittonet, 31. Harry Lemmey, 34. Rob Monahan, 35. Billy Wilson, 38. Sam Durdin, 39. Alex Cincotta, 40. Hudson O’Keeffe, 41. Dom Akuei, 45. Alex Mirkov, 50. Zavier Maher, 51. Heath Ramshaw, 52. Liam McMahon, 55. Lachie Young, 57. Luke Nelson, 58. Michael Lewis, 59. Tom Phillips, 62. Hayden Gill, 63. Kristian Ferronato, 64. Archie Stevens, 67. Aidan Mills, 70. Darcy Hogg, 74. Logan Prout, 77. Will White, 79. Jack Lefroy

Reserves losing 3.6 24 to 1.1 7 at quarter time. Cincotta, Binns, Lemmey and Pitto all started well. Had some sloppy moments, but looked better the longer the quarter went on. Wind blowing a gale towards Richmond’s end that quarter, so we struggled to get penetration out of the back half. Dare say it will be much easier for us in the second.

Looks like there's a big breeze to the left of screen - or god I hope there is otherwise it looks like the lads might get done by 100 points at this rate

Billy Wilson has looked lively too, though a bit fumbly. Cincotta our best so far.

Would be great if this commentator didn't act like it was the VFL's version of 'press red for Ed'. He's commentating each Richmond player like they're all 3 time premiership players

Down 9.7 61 to 3.1 19 at half time. Got destroyed on turnover that quarter, and were very sloppy going towards our goal. Some of the VFL listed guys looking pretty good, specifically Lachie Young, Michael Lewis and Archie Stevens. Not great showing so far from a lot of the AFL listed boys

Very tough to compete at VFL level with our current injury list. First and second year players + Pittonet and Cincotta won’t win you many games.

As posted above happy with the efforts of Wilson and O’Keefe. Binns is a bit of a magnet always in the right spots but needs to continue improving his disposal.

Would like to see us hold Pitto over as the tall emergency and give O’Keefe the chance to follow the ball for a half.
