Carlton - salary cap cheats

Remove this Banner Ad

Hi all

I must have missed something in how the AFL applies their rules. Now, Essendon and Melbourne cheat on their salary cap and get punished with fines and the loss of draft picks. Carlton cheats and they get fined...and the fine was a mere $100,000...not even half of what Essendon and Melbourne had to pay. Not only that, it wasn't as if it was the first time Carlton had cheated...they took the amnesty that was offerred in the early 90s. Can someone out there please explain how the Blues got off so lightly?

yes and I also hear that the AFL knew about this and decided on the penalty last Tuesday - then still allowed Carlton to walk away with 3 out of the first 15 draft picks on the Sunday !

The irony of the whole thing is Essendon supporters talking about cheating.
A case of "hello pot, this is the kettle!"

Taking an advocates role, how much over the cap were they? Id guess that would have to take some consideration into whatever the amount of the fines/penaltys would be.

If they have only been fined a set figure of cash, then perhaps they were not over the cap to the extent the dees and dons were.

Still if it was me, id throw em out of the league for a year or two or at the very least bad Princes Park as a league venue for ETERNITY!

But thats just me

thanks shinners, i was hoping i could get in on this one first

bitch there is no irony at all, time and time again i have argued essendons case- simple matter is essendon didnt cheat, and we payed a large fine and lost draft picks that we will continue to pay for for years to come

carlton go over, for the second time, cop 100,000- another example of the afl doing what they want to benifit them, this wouldnt have anything to do with the afl/channel 7 tv rights would it????

grendel i know what your saying about carlton perhaps not being as far over as ess and melb, but this is the second time- shouldnt that be enough to impose large penalties

carlton over the cap in what was it 94???
win a flag in 95
over the cap in 98
make a grand final in 99
and get 3 great draft picks
and with kouta getting million a year you have to wonder about the current situation

another case of different rules for one team and different again for others, i still think this may be some sort of suck up ploy to carlton over the tv rights affair

oh and bitch your wrong about hamill- he did want to stay at carlton.

Quote from AFL website

"Aaron Hamill, would have stayed a Carlton player if the Blues had agreed to terms for a one-year contract.

And he admitted that outspoken president John Elliott's comments made at the Carlton best-and-fairest count had influenced his decision to leave.

Speaking for the first time since his shock departure to St Kilda, Hamill said last night his choice was to stay at Optus Oval, a place he had grown to love over six seasons.

''I wanted to stay at Carlton, there's no doubt about that, but that's the way it is,'' he said. ''It was the toughest choice I've had to make.

''All I've known all my life is Carlton, Carlton, Carlton."

Walshy
Why didn't Essendon take the amnesty when it was offered in 93? Could that be the reason you and Melbourne copped such hefty fines compared to the one Carlton just got?

Bitch

So I guess that Hamill was a group decision by the club that does what ever it pleases.

Walshy,
Believe what you want about Hamill.
The thing is he now knows he made the wrong decision. Like I said it's his loss not ours!

"Can someone out there please explain how the Blues got off so lightly?"

Shins:
Maybe for the same reason that David Parkin got away with taking a swing at a supporter, and Sheedy got fined for "gesturing".

"er..because...er.....theyre just good blokes down at Carlton"

Pause to laugh.

Hang on its comming.
Ha Ha Ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He may have actually gone to the only team in the comp worse than carlton. Suck kilda.

Losing Hamill is definitly you loss. Or should i explain it to you in carlton language.
Hamill all gone now.
SOS had a bo bo.
Bradley is old.
Whitnall is fat.
Allen wanted to go.

These all add up to one thing. carlton are the second worst ran club in the comp.

The blues. The fattest, slowest, oldest unhappy bunch of cheats in the business.

And that coming from a Collingwood supporter. Please, from someone else it may have had a little credibility, but a Collingwood supporter! You can't possibly be serious.
BTW how come you Collingwood supporters can't spell? If I remember correctly you even got it wrong on your banner one day. Misspelled Collingwood didn't you?

bitch carlton didnt take amnesty this time either- they were caught, for the second time and yet got of lightly

and last time i checked losing a tall, strong, key position forward is a loss, a guy capable of taking 10+ marks and game and kicking 60+ goals a season is a huge loss, especially in a one man forward line, if it wasnt you wouldnt be bothered bringing it up, the fact is you just wont admit it
