In the AFL era they can, hence performance has flipped and it is now Carlton at the bottom and players leave Carlton if they want to be successful.

Salary cap is like 17.7 to 18 million isn't it? So $450,000 for an average salary for 40 odd players

That is the difference between modern day AFL Carlton and VFL powerhouse Carlton.

VFL powerhouse Carlton would offer big $$ to attract star players to come play for them with the expectation they would continue to be successful.

Many other players like Callaghan turned down big offers from StK.
