Hot Topic CARLTON SUPPORTERS ONLY - Carlton fires Captain Carlton

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

This thread is for the discussion of the sacking of a club mascot after refusing to participate in a bar mitzvah which was allegedly sending money back to the IDF.

By taking this position and labelling the act racist, the club has taken a position on the Israel-Palestine conflict.

This thread concerns a discussion of the following:
  • whether it is acceptable for the club to fire someone for taking a political stance.
  • whether it is a good idea for the club to have taken a public position on this issue.

This thread is not a thread in which you should partake in expressing your political beliefs concerning the conflict, nor is it somewhere in which forum rules do not apply.

Should you seek to participate in conversation related to the war, you can do so here:

There's also a thread on the SRP for a more robust discussion than can be permitted here:

If you wish to participate in this thread, do so knowing that this will not be allowed to escalate beyond a point.

Thanks all!

Really you know an NDA is coming?
Mate what world do you think we live in??

It was a party, there is multiple videos of this - there just has to be. Everyone is glued to their phone these days & there’s vision of it.

Regardless what happened the club has sacked him & they want this buried.

Whether he was right or wrong only effects the size of the cheque.

NDA gets signed it goes away.

Do u have any idea how prevalent NDAs are?
I’m under one atm (nothing nefarious - just work) & pretty much covered by one even for BAU.

It’s how corporate works.

I’d actually be surprised if the waiver/liabilty agreement u would need to sign to have someone perform at your home doesn’t have some form of confidentiality built into it.

That fact the videos aren’t floating around social media already has me leaning towards it wasn’t a massive public spectacle the paper was making out.

A little pragmatism & understanding of the world we live in should be applied

I've had to sign NDAs before as well. Also work related. Game testing mostly. You are not allowed to talk about this or show footage of game play online until we approve it.A couple of games were really good, the other one was a complete dog and I don't remember if it even got released in the end.

... dude, we legit have the Ch.7 article directly refutes the claims made in the Reddit post at the top of the ****ing page, and has been stickied there since the thread was opened.

If you have an issue with how the thread is moderated or that it is here at all, submit a support ticket here:

The level of abuse being thrown at mods here is getting tiresome, and if it continues will begin to see consequences.

Again not having a go at Katmanblue but the reddit post is allowed to stay up - but you only reference the sticky that refutes the article.

Other posts with an obviously different position have been deleted entirely or had links added refuting information in those posts.

I understand you’re on a hiding to nothing but I believe there has been a clear bias whether you believe it or not. I’m sorry that you feel aggrieved by that.

Don’t know, sounds suspiciously odd to me. Why would he write an email saying:

“I then audibly gasped, but wasn't close enough to the attendees to be heard.”

It’s almost like he knew the gasp was controversial and could have been mistaken for “I’m not doing it for these f…… “ and he needed to make it clear that it was a gasp, not what’s been reported, and that no one heard it. Sorry I call bullshit.

I'm not saying what he said is true. I'm saying that it might actually be the guy.

I’m not having a go at katmanblue here - as I appreciate that he’s trying to share information which provides clarity here - but if anyone posts something here which would refute the contentions put by CC in his justification of why he left the function then this would be deleted.

Nothing like that has been deleted. Only discussion outside the club's involvement in this issue has been deleted.

I’ve asked you nicely please take it down.

I removed the word. Your contention was ill-informed though, so that's what I replaced it with.

Various surveys and statistics indicate approximately 80% of Australian Jews identify as Zionists (and I would not be surprised if that has increased post recent incidences). Regardless of whether the kid was donating his monetary gifts to injured soldiers, captain Carlton was statistically going to have a gig where around 80% of the Jewish attendees and possibly the kid was a zionist and from a family that supports zionism.

If the guy was anti-zionist why did he attend? Poor thing had a high chance of getting breathed on by one.

I have no idea how anyone know what posts have been deleted.

Are you all going back and rereading the whole thread?

Bloody hell, I can barely get through it all once. And even if I did re-read, I wouldn't even notice if one was missing.

All of you must have much better memories than me.

Mine is a potato.

what in your mind would make "****ing z*ios" a justified response?
I remember being called a f***ing Leb or f***ing wog for years we just dealt with it the old fashioned way … don’t get me started at the way my Dad was treated when he first migrated here … disgusting stuff … then and now … people are either brought up to be respectful of others or they end up pieces of shite … it’s the world we live in and unfortunately not much has changed over the years.

Yep, just different people copping it.
Sad thing is it’s so very very simple, dislike the dickhead - doesn’t matter where their from 🤣
The swings & round abouts are interesting thou - could you imagine this club without its wog supporter base.
We are the hairy ones that love 😂

Like so many things these digital days, there used to be no insulting inferance to the term Zionist, it only referenced people supporting the creation of a Jewish homeland. In this definition the Australian Government were Zionists as we led the way in the 1940's at the UN to establish the formation of Israel. Today it's a all encompassing term of hatred. There is a bigger picture here people...
I asked Patty privately at the Brekky as to the clubs stance, and it is deemed an "operational decision", there is definitely a lot more than you would have heard on 'the news' or are picking up online. It's being 'contained'.

I don’t appreciate your drive by.

You straight out said that if any opposing view was given about what happened that night, it would be deleted. What is that, if not a mod drive by? It was demonstrably wrong, and easy to ascertain with just a cursory look.

Stick to the issue as we expect everybody else to. You're not the first to fire a shot at mods in this thread, and you won't be the last. Don't expect us to sit back and accept it though.

because Zionists also participate in non-Zionist activities, which is what CC probably thought this Bar Mitzvah was. Also he probably neglected to consult the Australian Bureau of Statistics before attending the event.

Why do you keep bringing up Jews in a political argument? Is this an attempt to blur the lines? We’ve seen the reddit post purported to be from the CC on the day. Either it’s a very sanitised version or someone at the party lied about what was said.
You are the one that made the matter of fact claim that antizionism is not antisemitism. I simply gave reasons why it can be and as to why many Jewish people would infer and believe that being slurred as a bunch of ****ing zios at a barmitzvah is antisemitic rhetoric. This is irrespective of the reddit article as this was being discussed prior to it being shared. I illustrated this is all not black and white for the various reasons I provided.

Have some understanding that regardless of your strong views of the world not everyone will see things the same way you do.

**** rich ****s leaning on the club to employ captain carlton to entertain at a bar mitzvah that was fundraising for people who kill people.

And **** those same rich ****s for laying the blame at the feet of the employee for not employing them for what the actual gig was.

And **** the club for also trying to land it on the employee and his bad language. So ****ing dishonest. Own it.

This swear filter shits me sometimes. I have to try and decipher Bluegum’s post and guess what swear word was intended.

Can I at least buy a vowel - I’d like the letter “U” thanks… :)

We live in a capitalist society. Learn to accept it. It is far better than all the alternatives.

It is common to give financial gifts at a bar mitzvah. It is also not uncommon for the receiver of the gifts to ask that they be redirected to a cause or charity. Asking that they be directed to assist with recovery of injured soldiers is not the same as donating to weapons manufacturers. It is a fact that conscription is mandatory if you are born in Israel, whether they are pro or anti war does not matter. It does not stop them getting blown up if the truck they are driving in hits a mine on the side of the road. A large majority of Jews in Australia will have friends or family that live in Israel (with a range of political opinions) so is it so unreasonable that they would care for their welfare?

I’m not blaming the club for Captain Carlton rocking up at a barmitzvah and acting surprised there are a bunch of Zionists there. The level of ignorance it takes to think otherwise gives his opinions and feelings such little weight on the matter. It doesn’t justify making a scene and offending the room. Be a professional and do your job or don’t show up in first place.
