Our defensive woes continue, and our inside 50 kicking leaves a lot to be desired. Thornton seems to have got worse with time rather than better.

On the positive Murphy looks like a real young gun.

1/2 time
Rome wasn't built in a day,
and Hiroshima was levelled in 18 seconds,
but 30 seconds out from half time,
we deserved to be 3 goals down,
but,
luck is a fortune,
and the ball is shaped funny,
11? point turnover in 15 seconds is okay.

As frustrating as this is,
i'm backing us
for sure!

We are going to come home like a wet sail.

O-Hailpin is showing something really good, he has an arragont side, which I like - a lot.

I reckon we can win so we get to play on the better grounds for longer but more importantly i hope we get no injuries.

I agree Murphy looks the goods and looks like O'halpin might be a good up forward for us this year.

Anyway back to the tele to watch the 2nd half.

I like the look of murphy and blackwell in the midfield for the next ten years. We still turn the ball over like the st bedes under 13s tho and our kicking for goal has been woeful.

If this game is anything to go by neither us or geelong will be seeing september. But its not just the players out of form, the umpiring has been horrendous. Still hope we can pull it off

I agree the umpiries have been ********house and there a 4 of the w**kers. This is a game of football and the AFL with there new rules are turning it into netball.

Dead right mate. The shot clock is gayest idea also. The goal umpire couldnt even get the flag in the right spot which cost us a goal. The rule with rushed behinds is inconsistent. And as u said theres been some soft decisions that have gone both ways. Cant wait for the real season to start

Thank god the rules are only here for the pre-season because if they were for the H&A fixtures I will be taking my membership back to the AFL and jamming it fair and square up where the sun don't shine.

I'd be interesting to see how effective statistically Houlihan was given his 25 possessions. I know he didn't seem to have a great effect from what I could see but I'd still be interested anyway.

He had a dip which is more than you can say about a few others out there tonight

We had to hide Lance away on the 3rd best forward. Good when able to zone off but when it was one on one he was too slow and immobile

Agree about the kicking up forward - Geelong were creative, used run and short kicks - we kicked long to the contest where Mooney or Scarlett zoned off. Maybe we don't have the run/creativity or the coach asked them to do that. There were reports from training that we would be reducing the long bomb but if that game was any indication it doesn't look like we've changed the forward movement of the ball at all

When we switched the play in the back half we looked better, were able to run with the ball

Waite, AB and Carrazzo seemed quiet, while Fisher, Lappin, Stevens and O'hAilpin were good.

Murph was ok for his first match - read the ball well around the packs.

Thought Walker showed a lot of dash at time but decision making let him down - it didn't seem to be his actual kicking technique that let him down.......although at times Geelong had 2 men loose down back because we had flooded back.

Kicking for goal was woeful......you have to wonder how many of them stay back at training to practice one of the most important aspects of the game

Thornton was very poor given he wasn't matched up on a Gorilla - Kingsley is someone with a similar height and may even be lighter than T-Bird.

Forgot to add; Fev looked good given his limited pre-season......led well and chased

I was at the game and from what I saw, our best players were Houla, Lappo, Setanta and Stevo. The 3 mids always chased did the small things right etc. Setanta was great, he led well and his marking was good too, he needs to work on it abit but his kicking is the main problem, another year on his kicking and he will turn into a class forward. Lance was exposed down back where he was schooled a few times and his lack of speed didnt help him. His anticipation was great but we cant play him on the fast type players. From the new guys i saw Murphy had a few touches, went around and Walker was doing well but his kicking was abit awkward. I didnt get to see much of Hartlett or Russell, as they werent in the thick of it. Kouta was also doing what he normally does but the body isnt the same as it used to be. Fev was pretty quiet and missed a few shots which he would normally score. Betts was doink ok got a bit of the ball everytime he got the ball you'd hear 'Eddie Eddie' which is great for the crowd. Fisher played well aswell, marked a few nice ones, led well and his kicking was good (could be better). Didnt get to see much of Blackwell, Bentick or Waite. Thornton had a few touches and was pretty attacking. Scotland also played well, from what i saw McLaren will be a good back up to French and also think Delucas a dud. Carrazzo got around abit had a few touches but thats what i thought of the team. It was a good effort but Kingsley was too good on whoever he played and it showed to me how much better the cats are then us and how bad our defence is, we seriously need to get some players in our defence.

Hey fellas (and possibly ladies)

Was at the game and gee, it was nothing special, but hey, it's footy.

Anyway just wondering what you guys thought of the umpiring in tonights game. 3rd quarter springs to mind in particular. Way too many soft basketball style frees paid for mine.

Also, Sentana looks good, but gets a bit tunnel visioned when around goal, could benefit the team more if a he passed it more often, because there is no doubt he can mark the footy.

Agree ablettjnr, i mean those centre bounces were shocking...
Oh god! I completely forgot about that. Consistantly the worst bouncing I have ever seen, and usually went in Geelongs favour. Disgusting. You aren't supposed to notice the umpire/ref in and sport, but tonight the umpires were a third team out there. They nearly had a full 18 anyway!

12/15 kicks were effective (according to stats on afl.com). Also had 9 contested possessions.
