Hey guys, hope you dont mind me visiting. Made this post earlier today as a bit of fun, archiving what i recall as the top 10 Essendon Vs Carlton clashes of my lifetime (born 1980), with links included for each game to be re-watched.

There was 1 game i was unable to get a video of, surprisingly, and that was Calrton Vs Essendon in 2000, round 20. This is the game Kouta does his knee & the week before the eventual 1 point loss to the Dogs.

Question is, does anyone out there have a copy of this game? I'd love to re-watch it. For a variety of reasons i have a lot of memories of this season. It was the most dominant i can recall a team being in the Home & Away season & the only thing that looked like vaguely being able to beat them was if a peak Kouta could drive Carlton there, much like he had in 1999 PF. The game lived up to the hype, until Kouta went down with his first knee & after that, bombers were never likely to lose it.

Anyone out there have a copy of that game? Would love to re-watch it.

Great game. Blues had us in trouble at one point in the third, but our class won out.

Unusually for him, Hird absolutely gave it to Beaumont when he kicked a goal when it was real tight in the third. Memorable just because it was very much unlike him.

I have this entire game. I bought it when name a game were still a thing. Happy to give you a copy

Hey mate, I would love that.

The last few years I have spent more time watching older games than "current". I just prefer that era of footy.

As intense as Richmond's rivalry with Essendon is, I've always found Carlton Vs Essendon to be more personal. The 1999 PF is perhaps the most memorable game I can remember for so many reasons & was Carltons last highlight before the shit hit the fan. The follow up 2000 Bombers were & still are the most dominant Home & Away team ive seen. Carlton were a real threat to them with Parkin still coach & this was peak era Kouta. I think "peak Kouta" might be one of the most underrated top tier seasons ive seen. Guy could get 40 possession, 12 marks and 4 goals for a whole month in a row. Kouta w/Carlton was the only team who looked vaguely close to troubling Essendon & with the demon of 1999 still fresh, i feel like Kouta's injury robbed us of a Classic Grudge match. The Round 20 game is as close as we got to it.

Can you Dm me thealp23 , thanks so much

Currently watching the Rnd 2 1996 "Williams / Umpire game". Another great game between the 2, pretty fiery. I swear Prior kicks a almost 70m goal, body height in the first quarter. Some of the skills of this era are crazy

Not sure im welcome here but I remember Bradley tearing his hamstring and Kouta doing his knee banging into Jason Johnson. Great game. I also have a copy but its on vhs.

tangentially related, but this bloke has some genuine gems of games (albeit mostly finals) in highlighted form

1999-2004 was peak "getting pissed at the footy" days for me too. a hip flask in each pocked of Jim Beam and a big ol German army jacket.
In the standing room under the old Southern Stand was pretty decent for that activity. There was an alternative version the boys us to sing to the tune of the Blues song that was very much not PC- would probably get you kicked out of the ground now

Get home. How ?
The good old royal. Might have had a couple with you pre game the night Kouta did his knee . These games crapped over any other rivalry that other teams claim to have these days, and its not even close

I remember the rivalry we had with you supporters, standing in M11 , it got messy sometimes but there was mutual respect as well. Other team supporters didn't get that same level of respect back then.

It was a really good win, but Essendon were set to finish top of the ladder regardless. The more satisfying win over them came a few weeks later in the PF.
