Hey guys, can't wait for the match on Friday night. Quietly confident we can beat your mob in a shootout, unless either sides do a Sydney it should be a fast paced entertaining match. Great start to the season Hawkers, good to see one of the older sides with great culture moving back up.:thumbsu

I'll tip the Blues by 12. (I know... im bias:eek: )

Few matchups...

Who plays on Williams, who runs with Hodge?

For us, a lot depends on whether or not Fev gets cleared. Maybe someone to run with Murphy as well?

Given that Carlton have had to work their guts out to stay even competetive during games, and that we've come off a huge win against a very solid team, I think we'll run on and take this one.
Given that ALL of my family are Carlton supporters, and they will ALL be there with me at TD on Friday night... Hawthorn simply MUST win.

We've got an dreadul recent record at that ground so.. there's at least that in the Blues favour.

If Fevola gets suspended plus the loss of Lappin with the shoulder(?) injury then we'd have to be favoured.

Important game to back up a very good and unexpected win with another good performance. Cartlon in patches were okay against Sydney but still thin on talent, we should win it.

I really hope Franklin is fit and ready to go this week. I think having a forward line of Williams, Roughead and Franklin could cause some major concerns to the Carlton defence.

I am still having nightmares about last year against Carlton. Now that the dust has settled on the Cats game, i am a bit worried about this one.

This will be a real test of the mental strength of the boys. Can we refocus after Saturday ? Can we finally overcome the bogey of losing to sides we should beat ? Will the coaching staff tick ALL the boxes, and not let Whitnall, or Betts slip through like last year ?

I, for one, hope Fev and Lappin play. We have to show that we can consistently beat sides when they have their stars in in, and Fev would be another very tough task for Zac.

If we keep our heads right we'll win, but I'll have me fingers crossed for sure.

I think your right ML a diver. This is a game we should win.

Carlton did not play well against Sydney.

Betts is very quick, good skills, real livewire, very dangerous. Guerra to pick him up like he did Gary Ablett Jnr me thinks.

Whitnall played FB against Hall.

Jarryd Waite is another dangerous Blues player, hopefully for us he's is still out otherwise I wouldnt be putting Dawson on him.

TD is a worry. I never feel comfortable playing there. At least we got a win out of the way against Richmond in the NAB cup at the ground.

It'd be disapointing to lose and stop our momentum after saturdays big win. I think the players will be really up for this game, and be keen to get off to a really good start.

A couple more early wins could really help our membership out.

I believe Fevola should get off but don't trust the tribunal at all. Lappin will definitely not play. Waite should be back which is a bonus and Fisher trained very strongly, may be brought back or given that traditional extra week to make sure the hamstring is strong. It was only a strain, not a tear or anything.

Will struggle to match up on Everitt and Williams as per usual.

Can't see it (Fev) happening ODN's, reckon he'll cop a couple. They just don't like anything that happens where head high (even ducking) contact in a charge is made.

Then again, it is the tribunal we are talking about.. so who knows what the result may be. Agree on Waite, carved us up the last time out and the match-ups worry me if he and Fev both play.

Got a feeling it'll be close but still reckon we should edge it but that damn ground though.. geez.. it's a shocker for us.

Wondong 5ths could beat Carlton, they are an absoloute shocking football side. They are slow through the midfield, have shocking rucks and a pathetic bunch of bigs besides Waite,Fevola and possibly fat cat Whitnall when he decides to play.

If we dont beat Carlton on Friday night we dont deserve to be playing in the Picola District football league.

Hawks by 36 points.

Think that is my worry macca2111, the inconsistent nature of a young side, up one week (Freo), down (Woods, up (Cats)... this week?

We need to win it for that base reason you've said, not to throw away the good work of last week but also to show that progress is really uderway with the list. Win a game that we should win.

I don't want to have to travel to Picola! ;)

Well Fev is gone, which frees up big Zac "Dominator" Dawson!

Well put Grendel, in some ways this week will be a greater test than the Cats - it's a matter of approaching the game with the same mind-set and matching last weeks intensity and tenacity.

If we lose this game it'd be like that year Dixon beat Carlton on siren, after slotting a goal, and then losing to the lowly Fremantle the next week. It took all the shine off the week before, and instead of been full on confidence we had lost it all, and then some.

Must keep winning.

Heard Fevola got given a week, surely they will contest it.

Replace Roughead with Dixon and I agree....Leave Roughie back to help out dawson.....:p

If franklin is good to go replace Young with him and perhaps birchall with............not sure.........???????????

Hawks have to win for Momentum reasons.....Essendon the week after will be tough!

Hawks by 5-6 goals;)

This is one of those games that is hard to get a handle on. How will adversity and prosperity affect the respective clubs?
If Fev accepts the week's holiday and Lappin's shoulder needs a week to recoup, the Hawks would surely go in to this one as a strong favourite.
This is worrisome! The Blues would have to have some of the old backs-against-the-wall scenario as motivation. And surely Pagan finds himself in a position where he's been numerous times before where AC is venturing into a scenario where he's rarely been before, at least as a head coach. The Hawks haven't been favourites often enough to know how to play that role very well. The Hawks are coming off a huge victory that makes some type of letdown a possibility, if not a probability. AC has to try to minimalize any letdown and focus on the task at hand. And then the game is on a Friday nite at the Telstra Dome. Like I said - worrisome!
A win here would be a real step forward for a young club. I expect a Hawk victory but wouldn't back my expectations with a wager of any type! I predcit the Hawks find a way to win a close game by 13 points!
