Carlton Win

What we can tell is that Carlton, when they play their very best football can knock off Geelong and St Kilda, but not Collingwood. In fact, Carlton, when they play their very best football are still a 50 point worse side than Collingwood.

Pretty funny that you genuinely think that Collingwoods midfield beating yours must mean yours had an offday, sorry, no. Carlton got smashed because they're a worse side, no if's no buts about it.

If you want to on thinking that your side wasn't playing at their best (they were) to soothe the pain of knowing that yep, we're just that much better, go ahead. Be prepared for the unwelcome reality come round 18 though.

You are wrong to think Shaun, that our form against Collingwood was consistent with the form we showed against Geelong and the Saints.

First, I rate the Geelong and St Kilda mids over Collingwood. We more than held our own against Geelong mids and thrashed St Kilda's mids. That we were beaten by the Collingwood mids is proof that we were not on our game (or alternatively both Geelong and St Kilda mids were off against us).
Secondly we are a very young and relatively inexperienced side and with that comes inconsistency. There is no doubt he Carlton mindset got ahead of itself when facing the pies. You have a relatively anonymous and therefore easily under-rated midfield. I suspect no proper game-plan went into combatting your lot - just play and win. You on the other hand went in with particular strategies against our leading mids and it paid off.

The game was won (and lost) in the midfield, as was demonstrated during the start of the third quarter when the Carlton mids dominated. Next time I expect more careful attention will be given to your midfield with a happier outcome from a Carlton perspective.

Not sure if serious.

Judd 38 possies
Murphy 30 odd and 3 goals
Setanta 5.1
Betts 3
Yarran 2
You guys had more posessions
You guys had more inside 50s for 3 quarters

You kicked over 100 points.

Yeah, you guys played a shocker.

That's what should TELL you how good Collingwood were. The fact that Carlton played a good game and still got pumped.

If anything, the fact that we copped 100 points in a 9 goal win shows we weren't great defensively and need to improve there.

WindHoover, a patronising tone generally works better when you've not shown yourself to be an asshat with your very first post. Just a thought.

As a little social welfare exercise of my own, I'd advise you to visit the Camberwell Sunday market and see if you can't find yourself a nice introductory text on the fundamentals of AFL football. If you read carefully and really apply yourself, I have faith that even you may be able to understand why Carlton will continue to be an inconsistent rabble as long as you have one-way cherry-pickers like Murphy, Houlihan and Simpson running around for your club.

Best of luck.

The premise of this thread is correct. We would beat St Kilda by 114 points and Geelong by 89 if we played them now.
But my favourite win was against the Hocks. So good to beat those loosers! I was at the game and was waving the Hock supporters goodbye with my other hand on my forehead the shape of an L (for looser) :D

1. I doubt you are sure of anything.
2. Your fascination with statistics tells much about your understanding of the game. Judd was clearly best on ground (as Ablett had been the week before). So what? The last time I watched a game of football there were 22 players on each side (not 5 a side as your stats references might suggest). As a team game, individual performances are not of primary performance. That was the point Thompson was making re Ablett against Carlton.
3. I did not say at any point of any post that Carlton played poorly (let alone that a "shocker"). In fact I believe Carlton played reasonably well but failed to respond appropriately to the pressure placed on our midfielders and turned the ball over. In that aspect we were poor, unlike our performances against St K and Geelong. That is, our mistakes were due to Collingwood play not basic error. [By contrast when Carlton played Essendon I thought the umpiring was dreadful, Essendon were worse and Carlton deserved to lose. I have not tipped Essendon to win since.)
4. Because I believe Carlton will be able to handle the Collingwood midfield pressure better next time I look forward to the next encounter with confidence. No doubt self-reflecting Collingwood supporters will be able to see areas for improvement in their team also and I note with interest how underwhelmed you were by your (generally over-rated) defenders. Of course you were missing your full-back and you might think he could do better than Reid or Brown but otherwise I don't read much as to how your defenders might improve upon their performance. Perhaps its because you don't have a clue or just shy to post.

You can believe anything you want, feel free to belive that Pinky the flying elephant who lives in a gumdrop house will kick the winning goal next time for all it matters.

The evidence says Collingwood is the better side and there is absolutely nothing to suggest that the result will be any different next time. Also, may I remind you you're the w***er who said this before you go off chastising people about their football knowledge:

You actually think that Ratten said "Ah it's just Collingwood, just get in there and win boys" despite the fact we had 2 50+ point wins in the prior weeks. You are clueless. I guess if you believe that you might think that Ratten going "Oh geez, maybe we should actually prepare this time!" will make the difference, haha.

That sums it up nicely.
