I am rapt that Carlton have finally been caught ... seeing Carlton take the high morale ground over the past couple of years made me sick.

But just because Carlton has been caught out does not mean that Essendon should feel proud of themselves or justified in what they did.

Carlton are cheats, Melbourne are cheats and Essendon are cheats.

In fact, in 1993 only four teams didn't - Fitzroy, the Bears, Sydney and Richmond.

By my reckoning, that means that Fitzroy won the 1993 premiership.

When the AFL had their salary cap amnesty in 1993, all teams except Essendon, Brisbane, Fitzroy, Richmond and Sydney, took advantage of the amnesty and owned up to being over the salary cap.

In December 1998, the Herald Sun revealed that Essendon were over the salary cap for five out of the previous six years, including 1993.

Now, if memory serves me correctly, Fitzroy were the highest finishing of the "legal" teams in 1993, therefore ...

I had always been under the impression that the Swans were dreadful salary cap cheats in those years and the AFl just conveniently looked the other way ...

In 1993, Richmond were hopeless - wooden spooners if I recall correctly. I doubt whether Richmond were anywhere near the salary cap at that stage.
