Best young talent i have seen in 25 odd years of watching elite junior footy.

Plays similar to N Riewoldt, but with elite kicking.

Will be a star of the game

Going by that video earlier of him last week, it looks like they played him at CHF, Wing and mostly CHB. Given Lukosius' obscene workrate, mobility and play reading, that could have been the case OR he could have been all over the ground playing from just the one designated position.

Has outrageous workrate plus the kicking plus the reading plus beautiful hands.

Anyways, that's enuff Lukosius, onto tomorrow night. Go H.

Not doubting his ability, but that kick straight out of bounds by Rankine in his Vic Metro highlights is one of the more comical things I've seen on a field.

Walk away with Walsh and lukosius. Future sorted.
That would likely be 2 x top 5 picks at this stage, with one being at the very top.

SOS is a genius but that’s probably beyond him.

The fact that there's plenty of gun talls might mean we can do well by focussing on midfielders. Maybe go for Walsh and a Bytel/Caldwell/Rozee/Berry/Hately/Taylor/whoever slides to our second pick (assuming we can swap our two 2nds for a first to someone who really wants to get a few kids in the door at their club... West Coast or Norf maybe?)

2 x top 10 picks please.

We've got one already - now for SOS to work his magic and trade the 2 x 2nd round picks for 1 x 1st (as he did with the Bulldogs a few years ago).

Would set us up really nicely in a strong draft.

That would be a serious magic trick if SOS could do that. Not sure many clubs will be trading out of the first round at years end.

I doubt anyone would even entertain a top 10 pick for our two (likely late) second round selections.

More likely SOS would throw them Adelaide's pick and our future first to get into the top 5, otherwise we'd be fishing for a pick in the 12-15 range.

We will need to finish dead last to get Lukosius.

Hypothetically, who do we think sits below us on the ladder?

How I see it:
15. Carlton
16. Collingwood
17. Gold Coast
18. North Melbourne

Best case scenario:
13. Carlton
14. St Kilda
15. Brisbane
16. Collingwood
17. Gold Coast
18. North Melbourne

What do those clubs need?

North Melbourne - everything. Ultimately though, still being heavily reliant on Waite, and with Brown and Wood the only notable younger tall forward types (and potentially Ben McKay, though its sounding like the backline is more his speed), hard to see them passing on Lukosius at Pick 1.
Gold Coast - midfield class. That's their current gap, but if Lynch leaves they're going to want a key forward instead. That being said, if Lynch goes they'll have 2 picks in a row here, and probably just take Rankine + King.
Collingwood - key forward. With Moore being flagged for a move down back, and Mason Wood being next in line for a forward berth, it's hard to see the Pies going past one of the King boys here.
Brisbane - best available. They're developing a good young core of players (similarly to Carlton) and don't have a lot of glaring positional holes. If I had to speculate, I'd suggest they may be in the market for a quality young ruckman and/or a modern play-making half back, but not sure Pick 5ish would be used on either of those. Rankine, if still available, would likely be their first choice, otherwise it's hard to see them going past Walsh. Big year from Bailey Williams might tempt them though...
St Kilda - quality. Might be tempted to go for a tall forward if available, depending on how McCartin goes this year. Ditto a key defender, pending fitness and form of Hugh Goddard. Ultimately, though, I think they'll go for a good ball user who can play on-ball and push forward. Wait and see on the development of Berry, Bytel, Caldwell and Rozee. Probably wouldn't hesitate to grab Walsh if still available.

Walsh likely the best we can hope for, but if we see the development and improvement we're expecting then he could also be off the table before we get a look.

*Early days, plenty of time for others to come into contention or for some of these names to slip down the rankings.

I reckon someone will do it. Depends on list needs and where they think they're at come the end of the year.

If it's a deep draft there's every chance clubs will do what the Dogs did a few years back when they traded their first to us for 2 x 2nd round picks.

Hypothetically, who do we think sits below us on the ladder?

The competition is incredibly even - you could make a genuine case for any (or all) of these clubs to finish below us in 2018:

- Brisbane
- Collingwood
- Fremantle
- Gold Coast
- North Melbourne

Even someone like West Coast could slide significantly although I'd expect them to win enough games in Perth to stay above us.

My thoughts exactly - though I'd certainly have Freo in the same boat as you have West Coast (potential to slide, but home ground advantage gives them a significant edge, and they've still got some top shelf senior players in Fyfe, Neale, Sandi, Walters, Hill who will break games).

I've got Brisbane level with us, flip a coin on who finishes higher.

Saints are a few bad losses away from falling apart, but realistically they should be challenging for the 8.

Thats a huge call when you consider the players that have come through in that time.

He is that good.

As i posted earlier, plays similar to Riewoldt, but has a footy IQ and elite disposal of Roughy and can play anywhere

Whoever has the number 1 pick, will select a star

Edited: Played his first senior's game in a final, kicked 4 of his side's 8 goals, 12 disposals and 8 marks

Might even try to get to the champs this year.
SA are going to be worth watching live.

Presuming a bottom 2 finish, that's finishes of 18th, 14th, 16th and 17th and around 22 wins from 88 games over 4 years.

And a list chock full of first/second round draftees...

1st round: Dow, Murphy, O'Brien, SPS, Kennedy, Kreuzer, Cripps, McKay, Docherty, Lang, Plowman, Garlett, Marchbank, Weitering, Curnow, Pickett, Thomas.

It's painfully obvious to us, and anyone who cares to think beyond the clickbait articles that permeate "footy news", that we have a stack of quality young players who need time to develop. Giving us a priority pick doesn't help with that. We've done a good job of attracting talent, and just about every player who has left in the last three years has been nudged out the door with little concern.

Unless we face a mass exodus of young players, the AFL isn't going to go out of their way to help us any more given the talent we've brought into the club.

You're honestly kidding yourself if you think the AFL is going to take into account nothing but win/loss and ladder finishes, they've got clear agendas and much bigger concerns than our fortunes.

Would I take the pick if it was offered? Sure.
Would I discreetly ask the AFL for the pick? Sure.
Would I expect to get it? Absolutely not.

We have an arguable case though.

I have no problem with asking the question - the worst they can do is say no. I'd just be amazed if we got what we asked for.

Priority picks should only be given out in exceptional circumstances to absolute basket cases. We've been down the bottom for a while, but I certainly don't see us as a basket case these days and I doubt the AFL do either.

Gold Coast - ... if Lynch leaves they're going to want a key forward instead. That being said, if Lynch goes they'll have 2 picks in a row here, and probably just take Rankine + King.
Collingwood - key forward. Maybe not if they get a Lynch. With Moore being flagged for a move down back, and Mason Wood being next in line for a forward berth, it's hard to see the Pies going past one of the King boys here.

...

Maybe a late first round Pick, around 16-18, but not a Top 10 Pick.

The two second rounders will both fall after Pick 25. Something like Picks 28 and 33.

The trade with the Dogs was for two higher second round Picks - Bulldogs ended up with picks 25 and 26 (after 4-5 academy bids pushed their Picks down).

If we want a second Top 10 Pick, I think we have to give up a player or a 2019 Pick along with one of the two second rounders we have. I think SOS will give it a try.
