.....and for the all the scenarios offered here that's what will happen. I reckon the club would jump at a deal for our Pick 1 and next years first for picks 2,3 & 6 (I would) but it simply won't happen.
We will go to the draft with Picks 1 (Walsh), 69 & 71 and pick up H.Goddard as a DFA plus some rookies. Almost sure

What's the likelihood of Walsh being a similar player to Darcy Parish at AFL level?
The reason why I ask is because Walsh had high production in a midfield lacking depth this year.
We're building a strong midfield that's going to bat 8-10 deep. You can have 10 ball magnets but they won't all get 30-40 possessions a game.
If Walsh comes into a deep midfield and averages low 20's as he matures, who will we most likely compare him to?

Provided that his attitude is good, that would be enough for me to trade our future first to grab him. Need to learn to play with the bigger body? - handcuff him to Cripps for a couple of pre-seasons and see what you get.Your summation is pretty much what i would write.
Imo he is at the top of the range you mentioned but looks like he could go anywhere between about 8 to 13. He is 8 on my board but could be as high as 6 as i have a 1-3 group(Walsh,Luko,Izak), a 4&5 group(Blakey,King) and a 6-8 group(King,Williams,RCD) followed by (Smith, Rozee) to round out the Top10..
His year was explained well in the last article on him i read. His production has been down as he's been learning to play with "the new him" ie the much bigger body and different role. His current is very good but his potential is enormous.
He is well ahead of where Parish, was at the same age. My comparison of Walsh has never deviated, reminds me of Cotchin.
I will add though, per midfield minutes, guys like Smith, even Hately, have a greater output, considering they can and do, rest forward.
Like Cotchin, the only real downside with Walsh's game, he is only a mid, no clear second position
I definitely think Walsh is the right player for Carlton no questions asked.
But if GC come with 3 & 6, that is worth more than Walsh.
A second position can be developed though. He is well ahead of where Parish, was at the same age. My comparison of Walsh has never deviated, reminds me of Cotchin.

If we do go with the 2 for 1 offer we’ll have a fair stockpile of young talent. We will have to start trading out some of our younger players to get the big fish in, like hawks did with Burton. No doubt a discussion we'll have right up until draft night and no doubt the AFL will be loving it the interest garnered by what may yet come about and for the jockeying of position clubs may yet get involved in, to get the player they want.
The club claim they want multi-positional players and we can suggest that Rozee will be a quality mid along with being a forward. Hell, he can even play in the back-line and that's all great, but what's the real advantage here?
Weitering was drafted with this same mindset and things haven't exactly gone to plan and when they don't, they can be spectacularly bad.
Not saying Weitering won't make it and even if he becomes a very good back-man, surely one wouldn't again spend a #1 on a backman again.
Our midfield would almost have been complete had have we taken Oliver and back-line may not have suffered too much without Weitering.
There's a lot to say about balance and opportunity.
If for instance we took Lukosius now, where do we play him? Who comes out for him to come in?
Do we have a four pronged forward line with McKay, McGovern, CCurnow and Lukosius? I know some will say 'what does it matter, as we have to look to the future' but there is ten years in that forward group already. He can't play back as that's full now and even if we did, do we 'waste' another top pick for a back-man-cum possible or fill-in forward?
Moral to the story: Don't try and be too tricky. If Walsh is deemed to be the best mid and you want a mid, take Walsh.
Even as tempting as a two for one offer may be, one has to have names attached to those two and not just be greedy because we can add more top ten talent to the list.
We have many quality young men in our squad already and adding more alone, isn't the trick. The development of these young men is the key and all being well with development and the addition of a couple of senior bodies next, we may well be on our way.
Was pretty firm on Walsh a few weeks ago, but if Suns did come knocking with 3 and 6, I would love to go Rankine and Smith. Fills two needs in one bite. Smith looks powerful now and would hopefully have the same impact in his first year as Powell Pepper. Rankine could be anything from alright to brilliant, but well worth the risk to see if his X factor translates to senior footy, and in an environment of players around his age, I imagine the return home factor could be minimised a little.
Walsh no doubt will be an excellent player but the prospect of two other excellent players is very appealing.
I don't think there is any problem on using a number 1 pick on a defender. Rance and McGovern would both easily justify number 1 picks. Weitering was talked up as a ready made "once in a generation key defender" (yes I know) so McGovern and Rance levels it probably what we were expecting. No doubt a discussion we'll have right up until draft night and no doubt the AFL will be loving it the interest garnered by what may yet come about and for the jockeying of position clubs may yet get involved in, to get the player they want.

Yes, he is Cotchin but with slightly higher possession totals (like Sam Mitchell) and slightly bigger tank (like Tom Scully).
Note, Cotchin is a 3 time B&F winner, Brownlow medalist and premiership captain.
I am not talking him down, think he will be a very good player.
Note: He is nothing like Mitchell
He gathers possessions at a level similar to both Mitchell's (Sam and Tom). But he is not as clean or as skilled as Sam. His possession work is more like Joel Selwood.
Will he be the best from this draft? That we don't know (he may be).
I am more interested in whether he could be a cog in a premiership team. That I can see. He fits a need we have.
With all that, if we are offered 3&6 for 1 we take it (Rankine and Smith).
No doubt a discussion we'll have right up until draft night and no doubt the AFL will be loving it the interest garnered by what may yet come about and for the jockeying of position clubs may yet get involved in, to get the player they want.

I remember seeing Cotchin burst out of a pack during a trial U18 game at Vic Park many years ago, and was left speechless. Does Walsh have that burst from stoppages?I am not talking him down, think he will be a very good player.
Note: He is nothing like Mitchell
I know you are a fan of Walsh, like many others. If we keep pick 1 and select Walsh, none of us will be disappointed.
Personally, he is not the best player in this draft, nor the best midfielder, but he a very safe selection and MIGHT be the best fit.
If we had picks 3 & 6, I doubt SOS will select Rankine
At least this time its the right Palmerno clue where to put this, but in samos instagram story, it shows a photo of newman, mcgovern, setters and what looks like jesse palmer from the northern blues on a table at a cafe, with a bunch of others boys which the faces are hidden. So maybe palmer has been training with them and a chance for a rookie spot?
And that is where we want to get to.If we do go with the 2 for 1 offer we’ll have a fair stockpile of young talent. We will have to start trading out some of our younger players to get the big fish in, like hawks did with Burton.
For a 2 year player Weits has already made it and, he wasnt drafted on position, he was drafted on talent and most judges had him as the standout. Not saying Weitering won't make it and even if he becomes a very good back-man, surely one wouldn't again spend a #1 on a backman again.
