If we landed

Pick One: Walsh
Pick 69: Berry
Pick 71: Joyce/Fletcher
Pick 77: BSOS

Rookies

Blakey
Goddard
Bugg/Fisher

then I'm happy

I'd really like another mature mid like Grigg Bolton or Cavarra but haven't anything close to them being considered

:)

You are desperately reaching if you are banking on Cunningham, Polson and to a lesser extent Fisher to come good.. Walsh is the exact type of player we need, I agree we also need a small forward, which is why I have said we should be throwing everything at Daniel Rioli to come next year when he is out of contract. Our midfield was a disaster this year, it was Cripps or bust.. Now we expect Dow to improve again, SPS to continue to improve and add Walsh to that mix and we are starting to look like a handy midfield.

Our fwd line hasnt functioned because the delivery, and ball movement from our midfield has been sooo atrocious that they have had no chance. I am also not convinced Rankine ever becomes a midfielder.
Fisher will be a gun 10 year player. His stats after two seasons suggest he will be a consistent 25 touch player, he is quick, makes good decisions and has good skills. I’m confused why he is included. Cunningham has shown potential, need to see him get a clear run at it without injuries. Poison played a couple of good games at the end of the year, jury still out on him IMO.

On a serious note, if GC select Rankine, do you think he'll sign an extension or leave at the first available opportunity?

Gawn.

I honestly believe GC should use Picks 2&3 to attempt to trade up with us and trade down with Adelaide. We'll probably never know if they have attempted it, but i would.

Fisher will be a gun. No issues.

You'd be wrong on that. Most will be thrilled with Walsh.

There has been good debate here but not many will be disappointed with Walsh.
I’ll say it whilst others think it. I won’t be ‘thrilled’ if we get Walsh, I’d be satisfied or comfortable, but not thrilled. I’ll be pretty disappointed if I hear there was an offer to trade down and we didn’t do it, we need to keep adding talent and I don’t see Walsh as better value than 2 or more other early talent. I’d also be just as accepting if we take Lukosius, Rankine, Smith or even King at 1. Alas if it’s Walsh, so be it. I’ll reserve my thrill until Thursday.

That you'd be just as accepting taking King at 1 is slightly concerning.

Would not be a good result given the composition of our list.

I wasn’t questioning Fisher, more so saying he is already there so have no doubt he makes it as an AFL player, the same can’t be said for Polson and Cunners.

Yeah cool mate, I definitely think he’s a jet. Astute pick where we got him. Cunners I think will end up being a handy HBF IMO. Not sure on Pokémon. Think he’s got some traits but lacks awareness and reaction time which makes him look slow but I think he is quick.

The arguments around Walsh are so confusing... Plenty keep bringing up 1 for 3 & 6 but surely such a deal has never been on the table. Regardless of the qualities of Walsh, GC can't afford to give up 2 prime assets in this draft.

Many of those calling for us to trade down are also also talking down 'vanilla' Walsh. I dont understand why would GC offer two picks for him if there are 3 or 4 better players in the draft? He is either a standout, clear best pick or there is no reason for GC to trade up.

How many of those actually got drafted at all.
Just Ben Paton to Saints at #46. Think he’s played a few games and looked handy. Maybe we would have picked him at #70 instead of Angus Schumacher if he was still there but from what I have seen I think Schumacher May be a bit of a steal running off a back flank.

Because 1 for 3&6 is insane regardless of flight risks and how good GC think Walsh is. It just won’t happen. I think if we were to get two top 10 picks, it would be for Port’s 5&10. I would even take that but Pirt wouldn’t be so mad IMO. Closest to reality is pick 1 for GC 3 and 24 or the deal has to somehow involve future’s but that is difficult due to afl rules. But if the deal was to favour GC - don’t rule out a last minute rule change on draft night for it to happen.. :p

Fair call, but I see it different. You’ll say, I suggest, we have Charlie, Harry and the Governor already. I think Charlie is best served playing a Kouta ruck-rover role up and around the ground. Harry I think is best between wing/CHF using his pace and also playing the forward ruck switch. McGovern is a swing man - he may want to play KP forward, but he’s not that big and I see him like his brother more often than not. King is the key forward we would then need to add. No point getting it forward as often as we do unless we have a Kennedy or Cameron or Brown to kick it at. We need to kick more goals. He’s not my first option, but he is an option.

You Definitely make some great point here and I agree that Curnow could be a great Kouta like mid. But King is a bit of a double up and similar player to McKay who looks like he will be a genuine gun KPF. If Charlie is to go mid, I think that Kerr would slot in forward quite well. Better of building depth in midfield or getting the trade down option to get Rankine as we need more small forward depth/x-factor than tall forwards.

Couldn’t agree more Fisher will be the star from that draft for us and Cunna’s has huge potential once he gets his body right. As for Polson he really started to gain some confidence near end of year and is the best chaser in the side works his arse off for 4 quarters and his hard work will pay dividends for him and us in the long run and apparently he is having a cracker of a pre season so look out for him to take a big step next year as a small forward and a rotating mid. Our Recruiters have done a great job late in drafts the last 4 years and I expect the same this year so not worried about our late picks at all, will find some gems again.

Spot on mate. This club is in the best position it has been in for over 20 years. Our list is pretty good now and only has a couple of holes to plug and we are a true contender for years to come.

Respectfully disagree.
http://m.afl.com.au/news/2017-11-22/callum-twomeys-2017-phantom-draft

Someone like Ethan Floyd, with his zip and endurance base, could appeal as a midfield option late, while Matt McGannon, a medium forward who had some nice games for Gippsland Power this year, could also be worth a shot. If the Blues want to look for a half-back after Sam Docherty's injury ruled him out of next year, then maybe Ben Paton could appeal if he is still available. Carlton has access to Ethan Penrith

Twomey was reasonably good in the top ten getting 6 correct but tapered away after that. Not that I would do any better, but his predictions later on for most clubs I found were pretty off the mark.

Charlie...looks like Wayne Carey and buddy Franklin had a baby up forward...

Looks like bambi in the middle...

Sure, let's move him to the middle.

In that case, you could present the argument for going with Lukosius to interchange down the wing with Charlie. Future line-up
C: Charlie - Cripps - Williamson/LOB
R: TDK - Setterfield - Dow
HF: Lukosius - McKay - *Rozee/Pickett
FF: McGovern - Kerr - Z.Fisher
* if 1 swapped for 2/3 & 6

Charles, Mitch , Harry and if we were to snare either Izak or Jack our attack would be invincible.
I’m also excited about Sam Walsh an outstanding young man respected by his peers , skilled accumulator great production runs all day, excellent maturity and upbringing, his family most be proud.
