Me too clubs need to start makin these other clubs pay big time for Acadamy kids, really starting to give me the shits.

Now the AFL are letting teams match bids with later picks and they don't have to use their next pick, so makes it harder to make them pay properly.

Walsh is definitely the safe bet however Rankine gives us something we desperately need, marketability and a badly needed boost in membership.

Everything about us over the last 3 years has been safe, game style, draft choices etc ( besides Charlie boy) maybe it’s time to take a chance and add some real excitement around the club, imagine the excitement around a Rd 1 debut for Rankine on the MCG in front of 90,000 and then just imagine if he comes out and kicks 4-5 goals and lights up the MCG with Charlie, Harry and the Governor and we beat the Tigers, or even if we lose the excitement around Carlton would go through the roof and get our profile back to where it should be.

We can’t discount this part of the equation when making our choice of who to take, yes Walsh is an extra cog in our midfield that is needed but really that’s it, in terms of outside influence other than being taken at no1 he doesn’t add a lot. Where as Rankine adds so much more in terms of outside influence with his brash exciting dangerous style, he is a marketers wet dream especially combined with Charlie. Imagine how many articles and stories will be written about Rankine and Carlton. With the extra attention he will draw to our club I feel it is worth the risk of taking Rankine at pick 1. And honestly I see him as an Akermanis type player in the future with time in midfield as well as forward and a lot of time spent removing his foot from his mouth.
I don't think i could disagree with this post enough

Menzel, Yarran and Boekhurst were enough excitement for me to last a lifetime

Yeah that one really gets my goat them being able to use picks in the fifties to get a first rounder, ridiculous.

You don't recruit Fasolo and Mgovern if you intend to recruit Rankine.
Stop posting.....and wasting cloud space.....It is Walsh

Yep once bitten twice shy ..give me the 300 gamer rather than a flash in the pan flight risk

Walsh is no guarantee to play 300 games, and Rankine is no guarantee to leave after his initial contract. It’s all risk assessment and weighing up the possibilities attached with each player.

There’s always some illusion of safety attached to players like Walsh. In all likelihood he’ll go on to become a very good player, but until he’s in the AFL system who really knows? He might be hit with a stack of injuries, or he might have peaked early and go on to become a middle-of-the road mid. We might get get another James Aish, Jonathan O’Rourke or Jimmy Toumpas, though I doubt it.

Fasolo is borderline AFL standard, and McGovern is a tall marking forward. Rankine would arguably compliment our forwardline more than Walsh will balance out our midfield, which already has quite a few talented young midfielders.

I’m sorry didn’t know you where the arbiter on who can post what and what does McGovern or Fasolo have to do with Rankine you tool, one is a KP swing man the other is a Collingwood reject that is a temp fix at best, neither changes the fact we need a classy small forward going into the future. So why don’t you stop wasting my time with inane uninformed comments and try stopping posting yourself.

Agree with you, only Death and Taxes are certain in this world, but Samuel Walsh presents a remarkable young man respected by his peers , wholesome, mature , exudes professionalism and confidence.
Surely a recruiter can’t over look such traits on field good endurance,
footy IQ , high production not vanilla really not too many flaws really.
Most of the year I was strong exponent for Lukosius I think he’ll the impact that say a Kernhanm or Pavlich had before him.
But for our needs and staus of development , I’ve converted to Samuel Walsh is the man for us.

Exactly, but you better stop wasting cloud space now or the apparent new moderator will crack it.

I am a very big Walsh fan, however one query I have is his kicking execution.

I think he kicks extremely cleverly. He always tries to kick to advantage (or space if necessary). However I don't often see him nailing his targets.

I have the feeling he is trying too much, working too hard to perfectly place/weight his kicks. In some cases, it might even be the receiver's fault for not running to the right spot.

What's the deal, talent spotters? Does he try a little too much (which can be fixed with coaching) or does his kicking lack polish (which is harder to fix)?

According to one recruiter his kicks tend to drop just short because he is expecting his teammate to cover more ground than they are.

Theres gonna be some dissapointed fans in here when they hear Walsh's name called out first up tonight

I actually don’t think there will be many at all. I’d rather Smith, Rankine or Rozee but that’s not a knock on Walsh. There’s so much top end talent, and arguably a few options with more pure talent than Walsh in this draft pool it’s no surprise there are so many different views on who the best is. Especially as the top 5 or 6 are all very different players stylistically.
