Well that was trippy. I was working away on my computer, pretty bored with the whole evening and then perked up with “wtf!” when they mentioned we had pick 19.

It’s a bit of a line in the sand moment. We are backing ourselves in to be much better in 2019. It’s easy to be consumed with negativity after the year we just had, but better injury management combined with some good inclusions (Docherty included) and another year development into the youngsters and it isn’t a fait accompli we finish bottom 4 as nearly everyone thinks.

Clearly we really rated Stocker. It’s a ballsy move no doubt, but I like that we are backing ourselves in.

Not just top 10, SOS then goes on to say and a bit higher than that...so we could be looking at him being rated #8 or so on our board.

So in our recruiters minds, it's almost like #8 & #8-14 for #4-7.
I watched Liams highlights again...I have to say how did he not go top ten? Big strong body, speed, agility, and by crikey he makes fantastic decisions that are totally team based. Knows when to pass and does it very effectively off both feet into a leading player. Or when to thread the goal himself. The kind of kick we just rarely saw at Carlton in the pre SOS butcher the ball days. Decent long handball on him too.

I actually think we dumped Boakhurst just as he was starting to play good footy, still think it was a mistake to delist him when we did. Was starting to gather some good numbers in his last year.
I agree, and timing can be everything!!! He got the arse because he was an outside player when we needed inside grunt, but now we are better in that area we have started to get guys like O`Brien who play more as outside mids and Boekhorst would have been an asset because he was fast and could kick a footy. We all know he didn`t like the hard stuff but you still need players that use the ball well..........just look at Bradles and he played over 300 games of footy mostly on the outside. Rather have a pacey player on the outside than one that just plods away in the middle (Graham) and gets loads of kicks but does nothing with them!!! Boekhorst should still be on our list imo............

Comparing Bradley to Boekhorst?

We get draft asset poorer as each year passes.

That's intentional. We needed to get in as much draft currency as we could during the initial phase of the list rebuilding (trading out senior players, future picks) before we move onto 'Phase two' (which is when we specifically target free agents and trades).

Phase 1 is now complete. Next year is year one of Phase 2.

Main board are hilarious.

People can't seem to get over the pick number - even when it's clearly irrelevant.
If you were hoping to get some sense on the Main Board, you were barking up the wrong tree. The quality of discussion on the Main Board is Facebook-like.

I'm so excited.

... and I just can't hide it.

I'm about to lose control.

.... and I think I like it.

Certainly not sense - but occasionally mild entertainment. The main board is often like subjecting oneself to a really bad comedy movie while stoned, drunk, sleep-deprived and under the influence of mild carbon monoxide poisoning - on a good day.

I'll be back again tomorrow.

Interesting 1st round

Think we have done very well, along with the Crows, really rate Jones and McHenry. GWS have aslo done well.

Always perplexed with Freo's drafting, very very strange

Whilst I like the players Adelaide took I don’t necessarily like them for Adelaide. Will be interesting. Obviously I think their trade with us was a bad move by them so not overly convinced by their first round.

No idea what Freo is planning. New list boss and still the usual not obvious strategy.
It reads like they'll have a new look forward line next year.

Comparing Bradley to Boekhorst?
Of course not.......just saying that certain players are not inside mids and are at their best moving the ball on the outside........hence the term "outside mid" I loved braddles with all his skills, so not putting him down just making a point.

The Stocker move seems to be a calculated and analytically astute maneuver. It fills an immediate need with a specific player we reportedly rated fairly highly, and still keeps us in the 2019 first round. I love the strategic thinking behind this move.

Only problem was I gave up watching at around pick 15 at 0230am US time. Woke up to an interesting WTF surprise. :-)

Not sure if anyone has brought this up yet but this could be a clear indication that we want to trade in a gun player next year.

If we finish last and let's say for argument sake Kelly nominates us. We'd be giving up pick #1 + our 2020 1st. But now, obviously we won't have pick #1 so if Kelly does nominate us we'd be giving up say #7 + 2020 1st.

So what I'm trying to get at here is that SOS may have tried to maximise the value he can get out of our 2019 1st. Instead of handing it over to GWS, we hand it over to Adelaide, get two 1st round picks instead - one for this years draft and one to hand over next year for a trade.

Anyway just a thought...

Cripps
Dow
Fisher
Setterfield
Walsh
Stocker
Petrevski-Seton
O’Brien

Our forward line and back line look just as exciting.
SOS has done it. He has turned our list around full circle. How can you look at that list and not get excited. For the first time I truly believe it’s going to be worth all the hard times.
Can’t wait for our list to mature. Bring it on.

Interesting comments from SOS re “when he (Stocker) started to spill out we made contact around pick 13 14 and we’re able to do the deal.

Sounds like Stocker might have been rated in top 10 by SOS and team? Perhaps very highly rated is SOS code for top 10?

Also mentioned bringing in a another midfielder (Stocker) probably a year early, so maybe they rated Stocker higher than the mids in 2019.

Exactly
