Again? #10 Cockatoo #16 Lang #16 Thurlow #15 Smedts
Quite a few misses around that mark in recent years.
again, yes, really liked what they got last year for the picks they had. Doing it again this year. Wells is one of the better ones at drafting in the league.

As for Stocker he’s another SOS injury deal. Got someone to break his jaw so we’d get him later. Nice work

We used our usual shoulder hitman. Unfortunately he still had JSOS's measurements and got Stocker in the jaw.... ;)

Don’t forget that SOS has spent a number of years studying live trading in the NFL. No surprise that he’s the first one to use it innovatively. Fingers crossed it works out for him. But I’m delighted he made the gambit.

My view is that he’s now handed Bolton and Co a list. Now it’s up to them to develop it.

SOS has built a beautifully balanced midfield list that runs deep with talent. In fact, I can't remember a time when a Carlton side has had such a depth of midfielders on it's list.
Agreed. As a kid SOS would have seen this lot around 1981 with his Dad on match committee. Rod Ashman, Ken Sheldon, Trevor Keogh, Jimmy Buckley, Greg Wells, Barry Armstrong, Phil Maylin, Wayne Harmes, Peter Francis, Marcou, Cattoggio, Marchesani, Glascott, Kourkemelis, and Rohan Burke was very deep midfield to call upon around this time. Probably deepest I seen and it also included Wayne Johnston mainly playing as a half forward but a year or two later took on more and more of midfield role when Keough, Armstrong and Wells all gone. It was around this time Greg Williams was trying out at pre-season training and could not get a gig. Parkin said he was too slow...

SOS as a list manager would dream of building a midfield so deep again despite it being totally different era.
Love his work and his team around him to be building up a class midfield from ground zero at end of 2015. Kudos to the previous regime for their one good result of many busts with Crippa being a rare win at draft in early part of this decade.

I think you guys nailed the trade with the crows. I'm not a bias crow hater and I support our state teams in any match besides showdowns obviously.

-Carlton will not be as crap as everyone thinks next year and i see you suprising alot of people next year finishing 10-12, possibly higher.

-You have had a hard year with injuries and will have players like Docherty back next year. You have a stong list and dont get me started about Cripps!!!

-You're previous high draft picks will have another pre season in them.

-The pick 19 you got that you used is worth more than a higher pick next year.

The only thing that is uncertain in my mind is the crows performance next year. However i think you guys nailed this trade.

Good luck next year!

Pretty much. I also think Graham Wright at Hawks and Brad Lloyd also studied live trading closely. We were well placed with two guys up to speed on it, to crack in and not be scared to give it a red hot go first up. But I really was not expecting us to be first club really doing it based on we seemed to have no picks to use. The creative minds, still found a way. Loved it as a surprise.

That is so true. And to think its just a couple of months back there was gloom and doom. And still that persisted even after SOS got Setterfield. The man, our SOS is a genius.

Just watched the stocker interview,my goodness I think I’m n love!
Reinforces to me the no dickhead policy. Not calling Yarran a dickhead but this is the trade off long term, quality character, stable environment and good IQ.
Must admit. Was very impressed when first heard him interviewed on draft night. Interesting twist to learn he grew up overseas quite a bit. Well rounded kid for his age.

Don't be surprised to see another pick swap to get us a second round pick.

I see us getting

Another quality draftee
BSOS

then as rookies

Only issue is if someone we highly rated is available at Pick 1. If not its
Goddard
Blakey
and possibly Bugg Lamb or Fisher

Ben King's face when Max was taken by the Saints said a hell of a lot.

On the plus side, St Kilda will be shit enough in two years time that they'll easily be able to afford to trade for him.
But, which one of those King boys should we feel most sorry for? Its a fair question......

There will rightly be some discussion around the Stocker pick-up.

I understand not letting talent you rated slide, should you have the chance to nab it.
My only question here, did we reach for the talent for talents sake or for needs, also.

I feel there's a lot more to this pick than meets they eye.
1. Have we taken ourselves out of the running for Kelly next year?
2. Have we a 'serious' midfield FA target next year?
3. Do we not rate next years draft?

This was a very calculated gamble and one we know the outcome of already. Would like to see the bigger picture.

MODS: Why is the List Management thread locked?

Harks, as everyone has mentioned, i also reckon the thinking behind the move was multi faceted. One reason that i think was important after missing Shiel was supporting a big player in our rebuild, Brendan Bolton.

He has done the hard yards with 100% club first mentality. Advancing a year draftwise is doing our best for the club first, but also supporting our coach as best we can. This next 2 years are basically career defining for Bolts. It is up to him to show if he can coach but it is up to us to give him every chance too. I feel we have done our very best to shore him up this post season after he fully supported the gutting of his senior players early on.

Russell, McGovern, Setterfield, Newman, Fasolo, Walsh and advancing a year draftwise with the Stocker deal is supporting the list/team at the right time.

I'm liking what we do at nearly every turn this past few years.

I have never understood why. We have always been heading in the right direction. Big picture. Even then the club keeps exceeding my expectations

Some great points there man. There is another side to it also. Other coaches and would be coaches would jump to be at the blues now. Bolts is about to be tested but he now has a fantastic list rebuilt from the ground and I think next year is his first serious go at being able to win matches. Can he do it ? I reckon so but if not the list is there for all comers.

Was excited to get Sam yesterday. Now the excitement to get Ben kicking in too. I wonder how good he will be in a few years time. Pretty excited at his upside and glad in his draft year he did not have a super one as we paying virtually nothing to get him. Think the draft continues at around midday so look forward to him being officially a Blue around 1-30 pm today.
