Nope wrong again dickhead, 1 spot left for the SSP period, interesting to see what we do, mature age state league Jye Bolton, Marlion Pickett etc or Sam Fisher or Blakey or maybe we have someone else in mind Tyron Smallwood I think we can take him now he’s been passed over in drafts, who the fruck knows my head hurts after last few weeks. Wake me when JLT starts.
Lol, I was about to report you for abuse before I realised who you were abusing! :)

Idiots. The forget we got a player we rated Top 10 for a 1st round pick swap. Really is that simple

Nothing guarantees that a pick at say 5 is better than one at 12 (as examples). We also get a kid for a year more to develop

The core of most great sides is built over 2-3 drafts.

I'm ****ing sick of losing. The time is now, Stocker will be great.

Adelaide are shit, anyways. They are an injury to Jacobs/Betts/Walker away from disaster.

People really underestimate the importance of getting the group all around the same age. We can't keep going to the draft every year. The odds are that picks will be for a trade anyway

We also grabbed some late picks for next year. What F/S do we have in 2019?

No they weren't. The emergency was afoot but we chose not to break the glass, as it would have been futile.
Have to agree with Shandog man... SOS himself said they were there to play reserves..without the horror run of injury thats what would have happened. I think list management is more than just acquiring the top shelf talent. There will always be a spread and the idea is incremental improvement in the depth. Or to put it another way ensuring our worst players now are better than our worst players before.

That’s it in a nutshell, upgrading as many players as you can per draft. That’s called progress.

obviously the "West Australian" are full of dumb ass hipsters who don't know the difference between a football and a cantelope.
Mmmmmm rockmelons

We won't have to pick up recycled players when our senior players are more competent in 2-3 years.

But for now, the VFL side needs hardened rookie bodies, until which time we can start being adventurous with the rookie draft again.
Would have preferred to just put lamb and Rowe on the Rookie list. May be list cloggers but they are our list cloggers. Would have provided the better back up. Goddard and Bugg will be gone a the end of next year.

Not sure about anyone else but I'm real keen to be better. Whatever it takes (not in the scum way but ya know)
Just bring on the Tigs ffs, bit of luck with injuries, anything could happen.

Real excited about our list, solid A for the trade and draft period given the two win, multiple shellacking season we had.

Or we could, you know, have the Northern Blues pick them up rather than cluttering our list.

Whilst Rowe is better than Goddard (who has reportedly really struggled in the 1v1 and running drills), I do rate Bugg more highly than Lamb.

Some people don't want to earn 20k playing state league football and would prefer making the 70k or so a rookie gets.

The opposite also applies; I know Adelaide offered Cheney a rookie contract which he declined to play state footy and practise a trade.

There's a lot more going on.

Didn’t we play Mullet Round 1 because Doc, Willo and ASOS were injured? It’s not like we started 2018 free of injuries.

As for these rookie picks. Goddard is a suck it and see for me. Bugg is a flog, and sadly he’s now our flog. But I can make sense of the strategy (I doubt Bolts has Bugg lined up for Round 1), and frankly I’m not going to get pissy over two rookies picks. We had a fantastic draft, a bloody good trade period and we’re still in a decent position for next year to land a top class mature player.

It really is now up to the coaching staff - which I think is where our true weakness lies* - to make something out of the talent they have. If we only win 2 games next year and finish last it won’t be because we picked up Bugg in the rookie draft.

* It’s not Bolts I have an issue with, but I have zero faith in our assistant coaches. I wish there’d been a clean out of the Barkers and Amos, but there you go.

Our rebuild is the largest undertaking of a list rebuild in the history of the game, we make Melbournes rebuild look like tinkering around the edges. We have turned over more than 3/4 of our list in 3-4 years that is unbelievable and remarkable, the job the team has done is phenomenal. We have rebuilt every line on the field defence, midfield, forward and rucks as well as now starting to build our depth players as well. No one has come close to what we have done in terms of player turnover. I am very confident that our build will be used as a blueprint by others in the future of how to put together a successful side and even dynasty. SOS has used his experiences with GWS to guide us through this period with a minimal number of errors and in the quickest time possible. We are right on track for a period of sustained success equal to or if not greater than Hawthorns of recent times. It is now up to Bolton and the coaches to deliver the best game plan/style for the list we have put together, that is the next piece in the grand puzzle of sustained success. Go Blues

1/4 of our list was drafted in the first round between 2015 & 2018

I had this discussion with you not so long ago TheRedPill when you were shielding the recruiting of Mullett, Shaw and O'Shea.
How did that work out and where were the end benefits? Let me tell you; There were none....zero..... zilch.

May be different this time around as at least were addressing needs and we may get 'lucky' but it all seems just a little soft to me.
Harks, I’m glad you brought up those three because you’ve actually proven my point for me!

Last year, Mullett played 13 AFL games, O’Shea 11 and even Matty Shaw managed 2. I would say that is an outstanding result, to get that many games out of players we got for nothing.

You may say that they were all crap, had no impact and are now delisted. That’s spot on, yet despite them obviously being battlers, they STILL got games ahead of the next best alternatives. In a side that we all acknowledge was incredibly young already. Does the alternative not concern you? If we didn’t have those three, who would’ve played in their place? Because I can guarantee, they were not playing ahead of any quality youngsters who were raring to go. We were stretched to our absolute limits.

And to the possible argument that we would’ve been better served with someone like Schumacher (who, by the way, was a skinny first year player from the bottom of the draft)... really? We were clearly willing to play the kids, in fact to an unprecedented extent. When a side is already that young & inexperienced, and certain players are still trying to find their feet at the 2nd level, you do them - and their young teammates - far more harm than good by throwing them to the wolves.

We have enough raw, developing youth on the main list that we need to nurture. That is our clear focus. More kids, who are even less developed, are not what they need. Even at VFL level, how are kids going to develop if the Bullants are getting flogged every week because they’re too young?

For what it’s worth, I actually think Bugg may play quite a few games as a pressure forward anyway, but if he or Goddard play even a handful of games - I’ll consider that a success. It probably means we were decimated by injury and had no other option but to call in our insurance policies, and like last year, we’ll be very glad we have them.

My partner. Who doesnt really follow footy but does like the blues. Is really excited about our trade and draft period. Actually most ive ever seen her invest in carlton. She keeps telling me she has this feeling about carlton. Loves charlie. And thinks with our ins we may push finals next year.... she inpresses me everyday

Even flogs can turn it around when they realise how close they came to losing it all - sometimes.

Agree with most but not Amos, the job he did in2017 with our defence was fantastic the mistake was moving him to midfield this year, which we have now rectified by moving him back to where he belongs in defence where he made his name working with the great Geelong defences. With Docherty back as general and Amos back as line coach our defence in 2019 will be back to its best and that includes team defence as well. What we desperately need is a midfield coach which is why missing out on Mitchell was a big loss. Need to find that in a hurry, would be worth getting Diesel back even part time to help out.
