Club could be just doing its due diligence, or they don’t think he’s that much of a flight risk (outside of not wanting to end up at GC) and his perceived arrogance is nothing more than natural self confidence expected of a precocious young gun touted as a top prospect years in advance.

I’d be fascinated to see the dialogue between Rankine and Carlton at the moment.

If Rankine doesn’t go number 1 I can’t see him slipping past Gold Coast at 2 or 3.

Purely speculation but maybe there’s a little bit of last minute campaigning from his end?

Rankine is such a pleasure to watch just magical, if added to our new look forward line, I'd almost be expecting to be softly rapping at door of top 8.
But realistically I'll settle for Walsh, steady leadership qualities and work rate are infectious, great attributes so important for our team.

Players I have no real feel for;

Smith & Jones (2 players) Hately, Thomas.
Can't really explain it but they just don't do much for me.......therefore will be the top 4 players of this crop. :)

Some of the smaller guys excite me though, but not for my top ten.

Time for your annual predictions thread Harks? Top 5, smokey, overated, underrated.

Soap, i was also thinking of putting up my draft for shits n giggles but i've got no idea what kind of draft to put up lol

a) a phantom on current picks that i would pick if i was the recruiter for everyone.
b) a phantom on current picks that i think the recruiters will pick regarding current rumours and feelings.
c) a phantom that includes pick swaps that i would do if i was in all recruiters shoes.
d) a phantom that includes pick swaps that might happen on current rumours.

Bloody AFL lol.....the speculation is fantastic but the prediction/forecasting is a nightmare.

I think you should do a phantom draft...but at each pick, you choose whichever one of the four options you feel would be the preferred method of the poster that originally had that pick in the BigFooty Blues phantom.... ;)

Had to be a consideration for SOS too. Rankine delivering into Curnow, McKay and McGovern, pinch hitting in the middle and having bursts playing deep forward...

My phantom pick trade/outcome.

Carlton trade 1 for 3 & 6.
Gcs take Walsh and Rankine.
Adel get desperate, trade 8 and 13 for 3.

We then take 3 players at 6,8 and 13. 2 of them become absolute jets, 1 doesn’t make it. We win 4 flags between 2020 and 2030.
Little optimistic maybe...

I knew I shouldn't have watched "Draft Day" last night. Now I only want to see SOS pull off a trade deal that gob-smacks everyone......especially Caro!! Watching their next interview together would be the only thing better than the actual trading of picks......

Theres the conundrum ...until he plays at the top level the real worth won't be known. Lukosius is in the same uncertain place for us observers.
And yet I think Walsh we can already tell how he will go. Brilliantly consistently effectively wether the team is winnng or losing.
Sorry but you have that arse about, because Lukosius and Rankine have been playing against men in the SANFL while Walsh has been playing against kids his own age, apart from when the AFL academy played against Norths`VFL team.......not knocking Walsh, just saying I disagree with your comparison that`s all.

don't want a pinch-hitter, want a rusted on mid-bull.....

So you want Smith or Hately? Walsh is nowhere near a bull at this stage.

Interesting if you’re a mid that can play effectively as forward you’re adulated, but if you’re a small forward who can be effective as a mid this is somehow seen as a detraction.

The vision is crystal clear dut do we gamble ? go home factor is there

Again - I dunno if this is just a go home factor or the ‘I don’t want to play for Gold Coast’ factor.

Rankine would lap up playing in front of big crowds, which makes me think he’d be open to a move to Melbourne should it come to that.

I’ve been on Walsh all along but I’m warming to Rankine so much.

It is funny though how much these kids bolt and slide up and down draft rankings now that they’re sitting on their arses instead of playing each week!

It's why I am keen to trade next years first. If we could somehow land Walsh & Rankine I'd take it and run

Of course it is. Mids have always rested forward. Hardly suggest the opposite has been true.

All spin and hype, it’s about to increase too , can’t imagine Wednesday and Thursday.
Logically to continue reinstating our midfield it’s Samuel Walsh by a country mile. If we want Mr. Magic to help in the midfield and forward line it’s , Izak Rankine, but will he remain a Bagger? flight risk is the issue.
I’m not worried about flight risk and if he leaves he’ll leave for heaps
