There has been a serious lack of rumours being posted.
Therefore it seems we will have a predictable draft. There have been no trade offers worthy and we will select Sam Walsh.

Silence could go both ways.

Could mean there's no decent offers but could also mean a massive surprise is coming and everyone is keeping a lid on it.

Twomey will release his first phantom draft tomorrow night.

Will probably give us a good indication as to the likelihood of some action around pick 1.

Well if Gold Coast were looking to trade up to pick 1 for Walsh, pick 2 + anything would be sufficient.

Could be 2 + 24 + 29

If the player we want is there at pick 2 or 3, it's not entirely critical that the second component of the trade is a top six pick or massive overs.

If we want Rankine, then Gold Coast don’t have to do any trade to get Walsh.

If we’re prepared to do the trade, they don’t need to do the trade

Interesting point.

What if SOS said to GC, we're taking Sam Walsh with pick 1, but if you make an offer including pick 2, we'll take Rankine instead.

If we’re prepared to do the trade, they don’t need to do the trade

But they don't know we're prepared to make the traxe til after we accept the offer.

Not entirely sure how it works, but I'd suggest once a club makes an official offer during live trading, they can't change their mind after the other club accepts, and then try and negotiate further. Will drag the whole thing out.

If they think we might take Walsh, they offer 2/3 and something else (29?). We try to get a bit extra added in (24?), but if we want Rankine we ultimately accept and make the trade.

If gold coast had any brains they would offer 3 and 15 for 1 take Walsh at 1 M King at 2 and B King at 6, 3 vic boys that will stay up there together , then we take Rankine at 3 and hopefully McHenry at 15 we get the player we secretly wanted all along and another young mid

What about -

Trade 1 and 2019 3rd to Port for 5, 15, 2019 2nd, 4th, 5th.

Allows us to trade 2019 1st as we now have full deck.

Trade 2019 1st to GCS for 3. Gives them 2 2018 & 2019 1sts.

Port take Lukosius,
GCS take Walsh.
We take Rankine.
Saints take Max King.
We take Smith.
GCS take King, Rozee, Caldwell or Hately.

At 15 we take Bailey Williams or another mid.

And therein lies the problem. Just ask the Geelong Falcons & Vic Country. A 35-40 possession game from Walsh doesn't guarantee anything. A 20 possession game from Rankine invariably wins you the game. Walsh is a low impact player, whereas Rankine is a high impact player. I think far too many people get caught up in stats rather than actually going to watch them play footy.

And therein lies the other conundrum. If you can already tell how he'll go, it demonstrates how limited his upside is. There is so much more room for growth and expansion in Rankine's game than Walsh's it's insane. Imagine if you could develop him to 25-30 possessions per game within 2 years whilst retaining his impact per possession. FMD.:eek::eek:.

I think far too many people here have been way too conservative with their evaluations. They're afraid of making a mistake. They're more concerned about where some kid's floor may be rather than where their ceiling is........and I think both Rankine's and Smith's ceilings are higher than Walsh's. SOS has drafted conservatively for 3 years and always raved about how good a teacher Bolton is. Now's the time for SOS to take a calculated risk and prove it.

So what's it gunna be Blue and Blue, a fried egg on toast or the smoked salmon omelette with fresh dill and drizzled with a fragrant Thai coconut, lime and sweet chilli sauce with a blood orange citrus salad off to the side???
Thats the longest reply I've ever got...cheers man....very good one too :thumbsu:
You may well be right..on some points or all points...I could eat bacon and eggs every day happily...so if it was me at the draft making the pick....I would still probably take Lukosius...or toss a coin

How do GC get 15 to give to us?

Won’t be unhappy with Walsh but I’ve been Super keen on Rankine since last years U18 championships. The guy will be a star, does things that not many players (if any) can do and has legitimate hurt factor with every possession. Players like him don’t need 30 disposals to change a game. Hoping the late mail is correct! If we don’t pick him we could be kicking ourselves for the next 10-15 years...

That would give Gold Coast 3 first round picks 2019 ......they wouldn’t take our 2019 first for pick 3, if we deal with the GCS it’ll be for pick 1 and purely for Walsh

All this Twomey Rankine innuendo is either him trying to raise his own profile or the GCS baiting the SA clubs to mitigate some of the damage on a direct trade with us. If indeed they are looking at a trade, doubt they’d place the bait through Twomey to be honest so I’m leaning towards him trying to raise his own profile
