I really can't see that deal being done, the difference between the lions 2019 first and our 2019 first is unlikely to be much more than a spot or 2 and it is a complete unknown which team would be going up or down in the trade given where both sides are at, so what is the point in including them in the trade?

Macca, CG has the Lions 2019 1st already, so as I said, it was a simple 2 club trade scenario

I never said the didn't.

The question is what benefit does trading the lions 2019 first rounder for our 2019 first rounder have? I think both teams (Carlton and the Lions) will be bottom 6 with both teams around the 13th mark and with the likelihood of them being so close swapping picks doesn't get anyone very much. When you then throw the uncertainty around in that both teams are building a list, both teams have had significant off season recruiting and both teams could potentially have a break out season if a few young players emerge quicker than thought it is very hard to tell which team (Carlton or the Suns) is moving forwards or backwards in the deal or by how much.

To me the risk doesn't justify the reward and the deal would look a lot better if you simply removed the two 2019 first rounders.

Macca, you are now changing the goal posts AGAIN. At the start of this interaction, you wanted an example of how we could add extra, pointy end picks, this year, which included future picks, now you say just remove the extra picks? Removing the future picks in the scenario I posted, adds further bias in our favour. It is a completely different scenario to what you first replied too, requested

As for trying to determine why GC would do that deal, there are countless reasons they could be contemplating it, none that I am interesting rehashing

That's where he started the 2017 season for the Northern Blues and was doing very well playing as a pure mid (IIRC two games with possessions in the high 20's) before sustaining injury and then debuting against port several weeks later in the seniors.

And he has never shown that midfield form since. A player that I consider has gone backwards development wise

I agree time to reprogram him in the VFL as a pure mid and get him to find that form again
That game against Port really damaged his confidence, he wasn’t ready especially in that game when we had all youngsters in the side and got smacked. Really started to regain the confidence that he can play at the higher level late this year and I think it will hold him in good stead going forward, is named as one of the best in pre season training so far so I think if we manage him right and keep his confidence up he will make a good step forward next year, if Pickett had Polson work rate he would be a star unfortunately he relies on his talent.

We are keeping pick 1 and taking Walsh.

Appreciate the insight, mate. But forgive me for questioning how/why a board member would tell anybody this a day out from the draft?

Unless we want that smokescreen and/or attempt to make GC make the last minute big play for #1.

Feel like setters could well cover the role Walsh would play, so taking him while still great I feel still leaves us lacking a balance of pace, adding Smith to dow and to some extent fish, would be a nice balance.

I kind of get a weiters vibe from Walsh, closer in development to their ceiling giving the illusion as a standout player.

Now I'm not saying that statement is true even of weitering, more so just a way to articulate my intuitions. At the end of the day I think it will be a boring but good drafting with us taking Walsh.

Arrow I am not shifting the goal posts, you are clearly misunderstanding what I am saying.

Yes I wanted an example of a trade with a swap of future picks and yes I am saying I would remove the future picks from the swap you suggest but not to move the goal posts but simply because I don't see the value in including them in that trade.

You say "Removing the future picks in the scenario I posted, adds further bias in our favour." but that is only true if you think the lions are going to finish significantly higher than us in 2019. My point is that I don't see that happening. I see the two clubs finishing pretty close together but, given the nature of both teams lists, the results of both teams in 2019 are highly volatile and so it is impossible to say which team would benefit from the inclusion of the first round picks in the exchange,

So to summarise, I am not shifting the goal posts just stating I don't think the trade you suggest would happen.

PS perhaps you should go back and calmly re-read what I said in all my responses regarding this before responding
