I was suprised when Stocker was picked. I thought for sure it was for RCD.
Looking at the team, they looked like they got away with murder when they got him. They were so happy.

Wow we are building a gun midfield, Stoker is a risk/reward bet by SOS if it works out it will be a awesome get.

We have so much young midfield talent now.

So much that we will likely have at least 2 playing mostly vfl next year developing rather than being thrown straight into the afl side.

This is a good thing.

What if we finish last next year but stocker ends up playing in a flag (or more) for Carlton in the future? Is the trade a failure?

We are so far off a flag it's hard to get in that mindset.

Ask me in 2-3 years time when we see if we still have Cripps in the navy Blue and the young players have 3-4 seasons under their belts.

Given how I rate the depth of the draft next year (no where near this year's kids), gaining Stocker is a massive get, as he would have been easily top 6 next year

If we are within 6 picks of the Crows, it is a huge win. Break even would be 10 picks differential
Why are we focused on the pick swap? If Stocker plays, nabs a RS nomination etc does it effect the value of the pick swap?

We have added Setterfield Walsh & Stocker to our midfield. WOW
Five more picks this year...now gives us more flexibility on who we now pick....although would still like another mature big bodied midfielder with the remaining picks....all GREAT pick ups, but need time to develop

If we were willing to trade it why not trade it during the trade period would seem to be the question.

It's not the fact we traded it, it's what we got in return.

Might turn out to be a genius move, but the optics now aren't anything special.
Grinch.

The point being made was we may have been able to turn our first rounder into a better pick than 19 if we were serious about moving it on. We'll never know if it was an option or not but plenty of fans will be thinking that.
18 other teams didnt think pick one was worth 3 first rounders. As good as it sounded to all of us here on a footy forum who support the blues, It was very unlikly. Same can be said for next years first rounder. In the end we got massive value and when stocker shows you how cool he is... pick 19 wont matter

I love the trade, supposedly we rated Stocker in our top 5.
I doubt that, but he could have easily gone anywhere from pick 12 onwards given how things came about.

I certainly rate him higher than Jones, Butters, Quaynor, Clark, McHenry, Sturt and Duursma, who will all picked before him. I guess that puts him at 9 to 11 on my board.

What makes you think that? Why would the Crows bid on Thomas at 8 if they didn't rate him? The value must be close otherwise clubs would not risk a club not matching.

I was very surprised Blakey didn't receive a higher bid, i rated him a bit higher and Sydney were always going to match.
Collingwood, the Dogs, Sydney and North are set up in such a way that they've resigned themselves to matching bids.

That means clubs can aggressively bid for them, which is what I feel has happened with Quaynor, and to a lesser extent Thomas. I don't think the Crows would have minded landed Thomas there, but I'd suggest GWS were spoilt for riches.

In my mind, Quaynor is ranked outside my top 20, while Thomas is probably a few picks further back than 8, say 10-13.

How do you know we didn’t but had no takers? We won’t know how these players go until a few years anyway... so you can’t say it’s a bad return. I remember when I was on Talking Carlton and Synbad (for those that know him) went ballistic as soon as we drafted Cripps.... let time be the judge.

I never said it was a bad return. First thing I said was we won't know til this time next year.

Why are people already worried about where we and the Crows finish next year. Even if we finish 12th and Crows 6th we could still get the better player. It's a draft. Trust us to keep picking the right player no matter what the spot.

Our list looks awesome as it is
That's true, but who says that sos hasn't got a plan to trade that pick regardless, could package it up with a 2020 first for another gun... Thoughts?

But we have added real quality to a talented list. We still have a first round next year plus we will have cash to go to FA.

Our list is virtually set. We have an extremely talented group that can now grow together and have competition. The standards have been set higher and with Russell they can start building now. We have an extremely talented group that are quality kids.

IMO I cannot believe how well we have done. It's brilliant. Now its about development and getting them right
Your enthusiasm is tangible. Love it!
