Re Finbar and one possibility for his recruitment.

Let's have a look at the Collingwood model fwd line. They had De Goey with 48 goals, Josh Thomas with 38, WHE with 42 and Stephenson with 38 supported by Cox 25 and Mihochek 29.

4 mobile marking forwards with good pressure supported by 2 big blokes who I don't really rate but still combined and contributed for over 50 goals between them.

So if Curnow, Gov and McKay can combine for 120 plus Fasolo who has never kicked more than 30 in a season then we'll go a long way to winning more games. Where will the other goals come from? Collingwoods main 6 forwards combined for over 200 goals.

Finbar seems like a "WHE type" which was ever important in their structure. Not saying he'll reach the heights of those 4 medium forwards but I sort of see the thinking behind it.

Yeah he looked good in his highlights package, but there was someone else I think we missed on as well...........at pick 63 the haws traded up to get the maggies pick (before ours) because they must have known that SOS wanted Mathew Walker (Andrew Walkers`cousin I heard) at our pick 64 because Carlton then went back 2 spots and got the O`Dwyer kid at 66. I only heard Cal Twomey say last week that we were interested in him (Walker) and Matt Balmer also said that Carlton had put a lot of time into a country kid with one of their later picks, and with BSOS going with the other pick it had to be Walker before him. In his highlights package I thought he had some Hodge traits about him with his hardness at the ball and also looked very good overhead, and the Haws must have thought the same and pinched him............no offence to O`Dwyer, but why did SOS and co go back 2 spots in the draft after that because it almost felt like the kid was "plan B" and they just tossed it in............I really hope Finbar makes it at Carlton but just how much did they want him?...........just my reading of it that`s all...........
O'Dwyer is a country boy, from Yarrawonga i think it is. He has been boarding at xavier the last couple of years or so. Pretty sure I read SOS had been watching him for the last 5 or so years.

Yeah you’re spot on with this, we were keen on Walker. But the hawks were also looking to trade a future 1st to move up and get Stocker which gives me confidence he will be a jet as they’re recruiters are pretty good at finding value in their picks. Happier we got Stocker and not Walker rather than the other way round.

I don't much about this finbar kid but I think we missed a real opportunity letting jake Tarca a small fwd go right by us to the cats
I guess we'll see how it pans out.

If Finbar is friends with Ben, then I think SOS probably knows him well and has watched him for a few years, much longer than the other recruiters may have. Perhaps he knows something they don't.

Makes sense to me.

We supposedly did it to Richmond by trading in to grab Stocker ahead of them. Stands to reason the same can happen to us. That's the double edged sword that is live trading - you cam certainly use it to your advantage, but there's little you cam do to prevent other clubs doing the same.

Ultimately, for a pick in the 60s, I'm not all that fussed. Whoever we took wasn't likely to be getting a senior game any time soon, so we've got plenty of opportunity to upgrade in the next few years if Finbar doesn't develop as hoped.

Watched Walkers highlights tape and he reminded me a lot of McGovern the way he moved and played, will probably grow to about McGovern size to, is 188 atm. Certainly a lot further developed than Finbar at this stage but I guess we will have to wait and see.

Every club have taken 12 month solutions this year. Looking clear that Clubs no longer want to waste time on 18yo's beyond ones they really rate.

Do rookie listed players still only have half their salaries counted in the salary cap?

If so, it would make more sense to take recycled players in the rookie draft as I assume they would be paid more than a first year draftee.

Ben and Finbar are two great youngsters to have building confidence and conditioning in the 2nd without pressure.

IMHO, CFC had a great trade/ draft Silvagni brought in undisputed and undeniable young talent to the midfield in designated weak position , good experienced support depth through trades and rookie list.
Only risk is the trade of 2019 1st rounder to Adelaide.
Silvagnin&Bolton have backed us in to win more games in 2019 I’ll raise my glass to that they’re right.
Go Baggers

Knightmare can get ******
His assessment is purely on maximising the quality at each pick, rather than the overall talent obtained.

I think it's a flawed evaluation method, as it ranks a team lower for taking Walsh and both King brothers with the first three picks, to a team that took RCD at pick #20 for instance, but he has applied it consistently at least.

Well done to the hawks for that move but I think Tarca was still a better option after we lost walker. Especially for a needs basis.

2 things ...We need to work on developing players better ..that's an area that's been our Achilles heel ...particularly now more than ever with all the young talented kids we have in the side ...we need to ensure players get the best out of themselves and realise their full potential ..I think these two areas of concern are going to be addressed now with the poaching of Hawthorns special performance fitness guru ..you only have to look at what he has done at hawthorn with the players at his disposal ..he has made average players into above average players

I say screw them all. Who cares what rankings they give. Its all a nonsense with lots of bias and agendas and with no real evidence that matters. Because only the future can be hard evidence on a draft.
draft rankings should be illegal until 5 years after the names are called - a court imposed embargo all media have to comply with
