List Mgmt. Carlton's 2019 Draft Thread

Will this be the thread for the 2019 mid season draft talk?

As the draft is relatively early (after round 12, i think), will it be hard to spot the next Kelly or Liam Ryan, as there won't be much to go off?

Not really. There will be a big enough sample size come the mid-season draft.

The biggest issue is the pick we may have. We might be too high up the ladder to access them with our selection.

Keep an eye on this thread for all things draft. If discussions venture elsewhere, it will be obvious. Mid-season draft will be a hot topic in a couple of months.

By rough estimates, the state leagues will be in round 7 or 8? Thats not a huge body of work.
I haven't checked how many clubs are taking picks to that draft, there might be a few not participating. I would love to nail this pick.

The number of clubs involved will probably grow in the ensuing weeks if they lose players to serious injuries e.g. Adelaide losing Seedsman tonight.

Anyone know much about Dylan William's? Heard hes pretty handy around goals, would he likely fall to pick 6-12, heard someone say he might be the most talented player in the draft but needs more consistency. Would love to see a small forward with similar abilities to Pickett, but hopefully one who's not as injury prone :S would make a huge difference in our structure

Played KPD last year. Forward or ruck now?
Depends on where the team names him, mostly plays defence but i personally prefer him as a forward. Rarely plays ruck since Dandy have had plenty of solid rucks who can do that instead.

Dylan Williams has a stack of natural ability as a medium forward, at 186cm 79kg he's game is strong both in the air and on the lead with great hands and well timed leads and good one on one.
But it is his ability on the ground and in traffic around goals that his game posses major Xfactor, a one touch footballer who can kick some of the freakiest of goals.
He has elite goal sense, finishing skills, can turn you inside out, great side step and baulk, this year he steps up to a top ager so he'll start to play through the midfield more.
If i was to compare him to another player, I see a lot of a young Mark LeCras in him👍

Sounds like the perfect fit for what the blues are lacking at the moment, hopefully falls down a few spots into our draft range if we're not trading the pick for a mature player this year.

Top of the list small/medium forwards is a must, we simply have none at all WITG. He has all the talent to be a top3 but with every new season things can change really easily with form, injuries and the unknown

I look at the list and competition as a whole and bigger 'outside' running players is what we lack the most of, but that's a relative thing. I don't want us to prioritise in order of our most glaring weakness, it's only ever worked once, when we drafted Cripps. Things change as players start to develop and others drop away, we have to start being ahead of the game instead of simply being reactive to it.

We certainly lack players that can take the opposition on with run and carry and speed, Cuningham Pickett and Williamson are the only players out ATM that provide this for us that are best 22 imo.
It might still take us 2/3 years (hopefully not) until we land a couple of classy forwards that provides the forward line with what we are seriously lacking
There's heaps of examples from other clubs you could go with but imagine if we could land our own
Breust and Wingard or Rozee and Butters it gives our forward line a different dynamic.

Cripps can run and carry with a player on his head, there's nothing he can't do.:thumbsu:

Some one wrote on BF SOS was into Tomlinson, sounds like the exact player you are describing. Anyone in their best 22 should make it into ours...

Dow is still one to watch. He as attributes that recruiters look for.

Will be interesting to see how the year unfolds.

Just need to find a draftee called Reuters.

Could have Dow Jones and Thomson Reuters...
