Midfield depth, at this stage. Will breath down Dow's neck, which is a good thing.

Cripps (mid), Walsh (mid), Setterfield (mid), Kemp (mid/fwd/def), Stocker (mid/def), SPS (mid/def), Dow (mid/fwd), Cuningham (mid/fwd), LOB (mid/def), Fisher (mid/fwd), Williamson (mid/def), Kennedy (mid/fwd), Philp (mid).

It's a good mix of players with multi-positional ability. Deep midfields are the way to go.

We’re not deficient in tall inside midfielders and even going in still had a good number. Kemp just adds to that rotation, and I hadn’t even really considered JSOS and Kennedy.

If we were going to reach for a player we were better placed to bring in someone like Rivers at that selection, which would have been astute given our need to replace Simmo soon.

Really happy with our efforts tonight.
Clearly had a plan to trade up (would love to know who of Stephens or Young we were targeting), which didn’t pan out.
Once Freo drafted the 2 players we would have taken we did what other teams seemed reluctant to do and bid on the academy boys.
We then decided to trade down, and eventually got our man in a steal at 17.
Know much less about Philp, but seeing SOS so adamant in the war room makes me confident he’s the right choice.
Overall a fantastic night.
Wouldn’t put it past SOS to pull another rabbit out of the hat tomorrow, and still (hopefully) Martin to come on Friday morning.

We were going to trade up for Adelaide’s pick and had a deal agreed...but surprise, they reneged.

We rated Kemp over Flanders so trading down was a no-brainer.

Who was it that we were hoping to get had this trade gone through?

SOS and co went to school on live trading in the NFL.

Some interesting reading that may explain the way we have gone the last 2 years.

Having all of our key positions filled helps in this regard to.

Live trading has probably come in at the right time for us as we can fill the less important positions with multiple mid range picks.

Great article and great work finding it, based on that GWS could look pretty silly in a couple of years compared to us having done exactly what the article warns against, looks like SOS went to the Bill Balachek school of drafting and thank goodness he did.

24 months is extremism. Seems like he's at the 4.5 months stage around now? He should already be straight line running.

With a good program, he'll be ready to play VFL mid-season, but I suspect we'll just keep him in shape over 2020.

He's not on the same level as Ash, Young or Rivers, but more than competent and gets decent penetration. Certainly much more reliable than Dow.

I will be honest, I have had a very rough evening health wise, nearly 2 hours ago I had a really bad panic attack (thought it was a heart attack) and the fine ambos had to come check me out, i am now okay, but this draft and the players and haul SOS trawled in did really lift my spirts and helped to erase the negative/fearful thoughts that were racing through my mind.

I cannot thank Mr Silvagni and the Carlton Football Club enough, this has been another wonderful night for the club, and was the placebo I needed the most. #GratefulElmer
