Pick 9 for picks 14 & 18

can we somehow get Cooper Stephens and Pickett with those picks.

Both should be available at those picks.

I get why people are keen on Pickett, but I'm a bit concerned about his size.

My understanding is that he'll be the 2nd/3rd smallest player in the AFL (or around that mark).

Would be happy to take a punt on him, but not with a first round selection.

Ben Johnson could be an interesting pick-up late in the draft. Described as a two-way rebounding defender, with elite pace and a penetrating kick. Could be that lockdown small defender we need, as he develops.

The criticisms on him atm are his size and endurance, which can hopefully improve with a few AFL pre-seasons.

I think this could be a very shrewd pickup late in the ND or maybe even in the rookie draft. Currently seen as a smokey in the 50+ draft range.

Keen to hear other people's thoughts.

This kid is close to the best kick in the draft and you combine his speed, he certainly ticks many boxes. I am a big fan and would not complain having him in our team.

I am certainly not on the Pickett and Kemp bandwagons, just think we can find better options.
Question for you based on your current view:

Assuming (just for sake of discussion) all these are gone:

Rowell
Anderson
Jackson
Young
Green
Flanders
McAsey
Ash

So from 9 (pick before ours)!onwards the possibles are Stephens, Kemp, Serong etc.....

What’s your order of preferred outcomes mixed with trading down??? And with who?

Eg:
1: Stephens
2: trade down with Port for 13 and 30
3: Kemp

Just made that up but you’re with me?

I really can't see the upside for North unless someone is willing to swap a first round pick for their 3 mid second rounders. Te odds that the future second rounder that North gave up is higher than 30 is incredibly remote IMO.

Hawks can now trade their future first though so watch this space.
If next years draft is as compromised as they say it is then it’s probably not going to be too far off imo

FWIW, mine are (currently):

1. Trade down with Freo (threaten Henry bid) for 11, 22 and give them later picks to make up points for Henry. Take whoever is left out of Stephens, Kemp, Serong in that order
2. Stephens
3. Trade down with Cats 15/25 (I’m just adjust for GWS matched Sydney bid from now on). Rivers, Burgman, Pickett, Weightman in that order for 15. Taylor 25?
4. Trade down with GC for 16/21. As with (3)
5. Kemp
5. Port 13/30. As with (3). Doubt Taylor there.
6. Serong.

Don’t want any other outcome that I can think of.

Sorry for the intrusion; I haven't looked through the entire thread, but have you guys thought about bidding on Henry at pick 9 and straight up offering Freo a trade of your 2020 first-round (pick ~6-8) for their pick 10? You sneaky your way into two top ten picks and if Freo want to save the points they take the trade, match the points for Henry and then pass your 2020 first-round on to say Geelong for their pick 14 or 17 to get back into the draft.
Personally this is what I’m hoping for, something like this anyway and trade down. Keep a top ten pick and turn either this or next years first into two top ~24 picks. Turn next years first into say two of Rivers, Stephens, Williams ect.
Walk away with three really good talents and although this isn’t a great draft there are some great types for us available

I’m far from an expert but I like the look of splitting Pick 9 to get

Cooper Stephens
K Pickett

Would sit well with the current mix of our squad.

Yeah I’m all for splitting the pick if Stephens, Ash and Young are off the board.

But I just can’t get around taking Pickett that early.

Give me Stephens and Bergman or Williams and I’ll be very happy.

This isn't bad. Perhaps more likely than 9 for 10 and 22.
I wonder though if 9 & future first for 7 & 22 might be even more of a win-win?

No Robertson love? He’s my pick of the mids at or around 9.
