Kicking is good. Playing good football is better.
I like Young but if kicking was the be-all, we could have held onto Watson & Fields.
Young is better than that, but kicking alone isn't the deal-breaker,

I certainly agree that one of our major deficiencies is elite ball users by foot, along with speed


Hopefully we address both in this draft and future off seasons

It really seems like many are getting caught up in media opinion/rumours of this draft year, more than any other year I have seen.

Most of the projected long term best talent, could actually be selected outside the top 10, if you believe what is being put forward

Do you see much scope for Young to play in the midfield or is purely a half back?

If Kemp, Stephens and Young were on the board at our pick and we took Weightman ahead of them, I'd be interested to find out how we're ranking these prospects.

I’ve done my best to fall in love with him. Here’s my thoughts:

He’s super clean. Like really good hands. Good mark but don’t over play it. Proper footballer. In the sense he makes good decisions and uses it well. He’s smart, knows when to take off and make space etc.

He’s just....I dunno.

He’s basically the really nice, good looking and lovely person you just don’t find attractive. Something missing.

He’s a bit short. He’s not ‘powerful’ like Elliot (Pies). He’s not quick (or slow to be fair). He doesn’t have ‘presence’.

Like if we traded down he’d be a ‘nice’ pick.

I do too. He'll be a great AFL player but just feel there are others with a greater body of work behind them that could still be available.

What's interesting is that excluding Rowell and Anderson, we've pretty much been linked with everyone apart from Young in that 3-12 range at some point.

We either really like him or just don't see a need for him given we've already got Docherty, Plowman, Newman and Marchbank that can all play a similar role.

That or we thought he was never a chance to make it to our selection.

I had him gone in the top 3 or 5 latest but im a massive fan and didn't think he was available at our pick.

If he is a slider im a massive advocate for the kid

I reckon Ash would have been the perfect Simpson replacement due to his run and carry, but Young would be a very handy addition to our backline.

Will be interesting to see what SOS does now.
