We currently have 3 mature, and 1 developing ruck on the list, as well as pinch hitters Levi and Harry. 3 capable rucks is a minimum for an AFLOn your 3 points :
Im hoping DeKonning will cover point 2 , an 80/20 split with McKay for the next decade looks tasty.
Points 1&3 could be covered using the adelaide pick as layed out above ...
list. With the age profile of Kreuzer, Lobbe and Phillips, we need some succession planning. There is only one bloke I would consider in the next
draft as a ruckman near the top of the draft. That is Luke Jackson from WA 198cm high leaping type, unlike TDK. Would need to grow a bit and
continue on the trajectory, but projects like an (fit/in form) Kreuze, Cox or Grundy type, who can be an extra mid with his follow up work.
We have most pieces of the puzzle in place. Like you, I am very bullish about TDK, but we will need more than he and Harry in a couple of years.
If things pan out, we are looking to improve the list to produce that "dynasty", we need to cover all bases. If the mids are covered and the KPP
are covered it is about filling the list with QUALITY. TDK is not guaranteed, he could be more forward, could (heaven forbid) sustain MK like
injuries, limiting his career or effectiveness. I would much prefer at least one quality "back up" developing, than having to cop a B-/C grade filler
such as we had for a while with Cam Wood. The 6,6,6 zone type rule changes are going to demand a ruck capable of more than just tapwork
and the occasional mark. Brodie Grundy is going to get some enormous offers when he becomes a free agent, we need a similar type. I am not
confident enough in the future to have all of our eggs in one basket. If both TDK and draftee become top notch, we have options to send Charlie
up the ground or McGov back to make room for dual rucks. I have previously stated I see a TDK/Harry tandem as a great prospect, but we need
an effective list with established depth when we are ready to climb that ladder.
Rucks in the first round are rare. If Jackson grows and maintains his form progression (chose footy over rep basketball) he will be well worth a
high pick. I certainly don't suggest plonking a first rounder on a speculative ruck for the sake of it.
