Don’t know why they don’t show more underage games on Fox Footy.
I think you will find Fox Footy are stretched to the limit by the AFL coverage they already provide & the various mid-week panel shows they record. Many of the off-camera staff work 6 (& sometimes 7) days a week during the AFL season, not to mention the time put in from the end of January to cover the AFLW competition & the JLT pre-season games.

Completely disagree with you.

There is more than enough time to show the u18 games if they are serious about doing so.

Understand most won’t be live given time clashes with the AFL but there is no reason why we can’t have replays.

How many times per week do you think we need replays of AFL360, Bounce etc. which are mostly complete garbage?

Well perhaps if they can afford to spend a gazillion dollars to progressively leech games out of FTA into their dying platform, a few more staff should really be affordable?

But who would film these games for Fox Footy to show? As you would well know there is generally a stream of at least one TAC Cup each week, but sadly the quality of the stream is not great (nor is the commentary). I think this is something the AFL should spend a decent amount of money on to provide proper match day footage from a couple of TAC Cup games every week. I reckon if this was to happen, Fox Footy would definitely be interested in showing replays of these games. They do a very good job in showing a number of the U18 National Championship games, but their resources will only stretch so far.

I reckon the games are all filmed already so it wouldn’t be too difficult to organise.

Fast forward a few years and I will be very surprised if there is not more coverage of these games.

Resources may be limited now but the league has the money to change that. And I think they will once they see how much interest there is in the product.

Think AFL.com.au was mentioned to step up & stream games for the juniors, when they are re-branded from the TAC Cup.
If the quality of such broadcasts is at least reasonable, I reckon Fox Footy would be happy to show a replay during the week. If the quality remains the same as what we have seen in recent years, Fox Footy won't go near it.

Any high quality small forwards in the top 10 crop? (like a Rioli/Ainsworth)?

Caleb Serong - 177cm/80kg

Small HFF-mid, more like a Robbie Gray / Toby Greene type.

Rated top ~10. D_P_S - who I think is a great junior talent spotter - has him at #9

Potential top pick Matt Rowell also training with us.

Super handy to see if it's worth spending the Crows' #1 pick on him.... ;)

I hope they end up with pick 6 or 7 and we end up with a pick between 10-12.

Definitely goes alright this boy. Was good enough to have been drafted last year, if not for his age. Look forward to seeing some of his TAC Cup footy this year.

Just had a read on the main draft boards for 2019.

Looks like it's a relatively strong draft with an abundance of small/mid size forwards and midfielders.

I know we need more mature talent but I'm kind of hoping we keep our first rounder.

Maybe even trade our 2 x third rounders to get into the second round. Only need to take 3 kids tops this draft.

The 2019 draft is not looking great at this point, certainly not the same kind of hype on the bottom age kids that was going around this time last last year.
Lots can change in 12 months, but if we had done this trade last year I would have felt completely different about it,
at this stage I’m not seeing a prospect that I’d be gutted if we missed out on.
After hitting 4 drafts pretty hard, another top 5 pick would be nice, but isn’t really required.

IMO The two priorities for us at the draft this year both centre around speed:

1. Classy small forward

2. Outside line breaking mid/HBF.

The above is obviously conditional following what transpires during the trade/FA period.

Serong would be a nice fallback if we aren't able to secure a quality player via trade. Or a nice bonus if we are able to secure a star player via Free Agency. Fits for needs, will have spent time at the club and should slot into the group full time fairly easily. Coaches will already have a good idea what he needs to work on.

Or if we end up using Adelaide's pick in a trade, and depending on how the draft unfolds, we look to repeat the Stocker trade. Send our 2020 first to a mid-table club for an early teens pick that gets Serong, plus a mid/late first in 2020. Get the best of both worlds.

^^This^^

I will add a quick, tight, defensively minded, small backman that loves to take on the game when there’s an opportunity to do so.

Been scouring the lists, and the one that popped out to me that I don't think I've seen mentioned before is Riley Bonner from Port. Expecting to get squeezed out of the backline to fit Burton in, hoping to hold down a spot on the wing. Turning 22 next month, 23 games under his belt (which should head up to ~40+ this year).

If Port struggle, and if they play him out of position, he might be gettable for something in the Pick 30-40 range.

26yo midfielder via free agency.
23yo running small defender for a late-ish pick.
18yo small forward (Serong) with Adelaide's pick.
Fill in the gaps with best available at the draft.

Given we have Adelaide's first rounder, hopefully one of the following will be around the mark:
  • Sam Flanders
  • Cooper Stephens
  • Caleb Serong
  • Hayden Young
I'm assuming Noah Anderson will already be off the board.
Serong would sit nicely in our forward pocket with midfield bursts, another mosquito like Fish.

Dan Butler is an underatted small forward , a 22yo premiership player approaching 50 games.
You also left out using the richmond 1st rounder to draft our Simpson replacement as a key part of the deal.
Interesting discussion ...
Don’t we already have our Simpson replacement in O’Brien, will mainly play wing to start but will be dropping back to help out exactly as Simpson did early days and eventually end up as the running half back like Simmo.

Agresta has already snared Newman for zilch whom will be more than serviceable and attracted Alex Johnson too both good assets for development of our youth and thats so important, early days yet but his influence is noticeable.
Yeah I think Johnson will be good for the development of guys like McReadie who seems to have stalled after a very promising first year, an astute pick up for our development.

Agree completely most panel shows are garbage the first time without constant repeats, much better option having u18 replays so we can get a better gauge on prospective up and comers.

O'Brien looks a wingman to his bootstraps for mine.
Soapy has confirmed as much also ...
